With 'Shaq vs Big Show' likely to be featured at Wrestlemania I wondered out loud -- has a celebrity ever jobbed to a wrestler?

I realize many instances of celebrity mixing with the wrestlers is in the 'sports entertainment' era but I am sure it goes back further and certain towns had local celebrities get involved.

So -- I am asking the results collectors -- can we see some instances where celebrities have gotten involved with wrestling and ended up getting into the ring to settle the score?

Bret Hart dismantled Will Sasso in WCW in one of those work-shoot-blurrings.

Jimmy Savile always jobbed when he was wrestling, there's footage of Gentleman Jim Lewis knocking him out in about five seconds, but I doubt any more will ever come out given what is now known about Savile.

Milwaukee sportscaster Rod Luck did a match with Billy Robinson, and Billy fed into the angle for Rod just enough to piss off Verne, so the story goes. In the end, Robinson rammed home a hammerlock such that Luck's submission made it clear to the audience that wrestling can be as real as they want it to be. This was in 1977 if memory serves.

David Arquette lost to Orton in a Tables Match on RAW a few years ago.

Inoki beat just about all of the fighting cross-over stars over the years doing his Martial Arts champion gimmick.

Drew Carey eliminated himself in the Royal Rumble instead of facing Kane. Does that count ?

Jay Leno and I think DDP teamed up to face Hogan and Bishoff.

I think Jackie Gleason took out Roger Kirby in Miami one night with 1 punch

Kevin Federline owns a pinfall victory over John Cena IIRC.

Mr. T teamed with Hogan to beat Piper/Orndorff, boxed Piper to a DQ and beat Kevin Sullivan at a Starrcade.

Source? I'm sure I would have heard about this.

I really don't think this happened much in the territory days. In a time that was all about protecting the business, a celebrity couldn't come in and be seen as a equal with a professional wrestling (compared to how Lawrence Taylor and Stephen Amell were seen). I can't see that a local celebrity getting the shit kicked out of him by a wrestler would have drawn, so it didn't happen.

The exception would be boxers. Jack Dempsey, Archie Moore, Max Baer to name three had quite a few appearances as referees. Knocking out a heel was okay, because being knocked out by a former world champion boxer didn't break any kayfabe.

Starrcade 1994
"Triple Threat"
December 27, 1994 in Nashville, TN
Municipal Auditorium drawing 8,200 ($82,000)
Shown live on PPV (0.6)
  1. Vader pinned Jim Duggan (12:06) to win the WCW US Title.

  2. Alex Wright pinned Jean Paul Levesque (14:03).

  3. WCW TV Champ Johnny B. Badd pinned Arn Anderson (11:21).

  4. The Nasty Boys beat Harlem Heat (17:49) via DQ.

  5. Mr. T pinned Kevin Sullivan (3:50).

  6. Sting beat Avalanche (15:26) via DQ.

  7. WCW World Champ Hulk Hogan pinned The Butcher (12:07).
Here's a video I dug up. Apparently Mr. T was going for the sleepy referee look. Jimmy Hart distracts. Evad interferes to get T the win. Kind of a heelish thing for babyfaces to do if you ask me.

Obviously, the Hogan/T tag was WM I, while the box to a no-contest/DQ whatever that was was WM II. I had no recollection of Mr. T vs. Kevin Sullivan either, but apparently, it happened as I've found match reviews of it.

So who was the first celebrity to actually wrestle?  Not counting all the special referee stuff which has been going on since at least the '30s (I also won't count the Mohammad Ali thing for the purposes of this discussion since that wasn't even really a worked wrestling match).  Was it Kaufman?  I know there was serious talk about Elvis wrestling when his career tanked that even predates that.
