How often did they wrestle?

I know when graham was the WWWF champion they hooked up a few times. Had to be a mind-blowing match by the way. Anything decisive in terms of who won "the series" between them?

Patera debuted during late 1972 in the AWA. His first feud was against Graham. It was Graham's job to get Patera over with the fans. They of course wrestled countless times but also engaged in weightlifting contests and arm wrestling matches. Graham was so hated then. He was the cocky, jive talking heel that everyone wanted to see get his ass kicked.

They next feuded in east Texas during 1974. Basically the same feud as in the AWA. Arm Wrestling and regular wrestling bouts.

Superstar Billy Graham reserarcher quasi aka Ron Witmer even found Graham defending the WWF Title against Patera. Yep heel vs heel. I'll ask quasi to total the number of times Patera wrestled Graham.

Was the Patera-Graham title bout from Toronto?

Toronto is usually a good guess for oddball matchups, since there was talent from everywhere in there at one point or another, often at the same time.

5/31/77 Portland, Maine @ Exposition Center
Non Title Grudge Match
WWWF Champion Superstar Billy Graham ddq Ken Patera
Larry Zbyszko & Tony Garea & Haystack Calhoun beat Gashouse Gilbert & Baron Scicluna & Pete Doherty
SD Jones beat Jan Nelson
Peter Maivia beat Johnny Rodz
Pete Austin beat Frank Rodriguez
att: 1,900

It thought it was a title match but it wasn't. I'll invite quasi here. Maybe he has found more matches between Patera and Graham in the WWWF.

The return match was for the title.  And they bring in Gorilla Monsoon to be the ref.  This would be on July 12, 1977

Now last week when I was in CT.  I found a match between Ivan Putski and Ken Patera.  To which the winner was to receive a title shot.  Patera won, and the paper even stated he won a title shot against Billy Graham.  So I am right now in Rhode Island in my travels hoping to locate it tomorrow, in CT.  I jsut got here from Poughkeepsie and Albany New York, doing more research.

Great stuff Ron. Would love to see more. Makes me wish "the wrestling that I grew up watching" would just come back.

I researched more into the Connecticut venue that mentioned Patera earning the right to fight Graham for the title.  It is just how the newspaper reporter had reported it.  I found similar ones in the previous years where Putski won against Patera, and it had the same write up, even going as far as saying Putski earned a title match against Bruno Sammartino in MSG.   lol
