My Dodgers are making moves to secure the NL West, by dealing for Jim Thome and Jon Garland.

I don't see Thome helping much.  They got an over-the-hill slugger who can only DH and now they have to play him in the field.  At least his contract is up at the end of the year so it doesn't cost them much, but I just don't think he's above average power hitter anymore, and his defense can hurt them.

Garland at the back of the rotation is a good pickup. Other than Billingsley (I love that guy) and Kershaw, they're questionable.

Thome's only value in the NL is as PH.

Garland will do well in the N.L.  He could have a sub 4.00 ERA the rest of the year.

I hope the trade fucks them up.

or in the World Series as a DH in the American League Park.

What about Wolf? He was leading the NL in ERA or WHIP for a while (granted, my info is stale here).

Both are putrid acquisitions. Thome blows and can't field; are they thinking DH for the WS? Garland's washed up.

I'm suprised they didn't go after Harden. The Twins were reportedly interested in him but the Cubs wanted too much. We can't even disassemble this debacle of a team.

They are going to use Thome as a left handed power hitter off the bench, and he is batting .252 with 23 home runs and 74 RBI in 106 games, so he can still hit.

He is 0 for 7 pinch hitting this year. I hope he continues his streak.

Garland has been in the NL the whole season. He was with Arizona.

Thought he was still with the White Sox.  Forgot he went to Arizona.
