I'm just happy I'm a Cardinals fan and focus on the National League through the season and the playoffs.
If your a fan of an American League team that's not the Yankees, Red Sox, Angels and you haven't given up on baseball you are a true die hard fan. I say that as a joke but it's not really a laughing matter anymore. And this isn't to put down the Yankees because I really respect their history and a lot of their true die-hard fans. But you really have to feel sorry for some of these teams that really have no chance anymore like the Orioles, Blue Jays, Royals, A's, ect. because of the way the business of baseball has become over the past 12-14 years. Baseball like everything else has become about ratings, big coorporations, big dollar sponsorships and high dollar TV contracts. And in this era of big time money the small market teams just can't compete with the big boys when it comes to paying these free agent contracts.
Right now MLB is in a big money making boom (the sport as a whole). But it will change at some point. It may take another 10-15 years or so but this current system will crash on MLB and things will have to change. It could be that some teams will have to fold because fans in the small markets will just finally give up on the sport (and this is starting to happen to many of the small market teams now) or maybe a salary cap/salary floor will have to be established but the boom won't last forever and if baseball is to survive.. changes will have to be made. If not then at some point Major League Baseball is going to become just a large market sport when every team will be located in just the large markets and the league could be shaved to where there will only be about 18-20 teams in baseball. I know that sounds drastic but the small markets are slowly being killed off from the sport and if the fans give up and don't show up anymore and buy tickets and they start to lose local sponsorships then several of these teams (Pirates, Reds, Royals, Marlins, Rays, A's ect.) will go bankrupt....maybe not the owners of the teams per say but the franchise in that city will go bankrupt.
In most of these small markets they have built fancy new stadiums (some by using the tax payer's money) to try and lure in the fans and it has worked to some degree but that is starting to wear off. So here soon if they don't have a team they can get behind and want to spend money on, these teams can't sell just a new stadium forever and they are going to be in big trouble and getting the luxury tax checks from MLB won't be enough to survive. If things don't change in the next 10 years or so there might not be any turning back.

And before you call me a troll, go reread your vagina monologues in the In Game thread. Conversations with oneself are never impressive Steve. And they do nothing to take away from the "asshole Yankee fan" image.

The Fans
If the phillies were not in the series I would have wanted New York to win.
New York is my back up team. If the Phillies cant be in the series then I want the Yankees to be in.

I think the Yankees do at least "try" to buy the championship but I also think that tactic is less effective in baseball than other sports. I also would say that "parity" is of lesser importance in baseball than other sports. The weaker team/underdog already wins 40% of the time and a "good" season is 100 wins so do the math.
I'm not "parity" is that important. I kind of liked the Big Red Machine and the 1970s Oakland A's and the 1970s Pittsburgh Steelers, etc ~ it gave your team a "measuring stick" and you knew they had arrived when they toppled them.
So as an NFL (Eagles) fan I am halfway through the season and haven't a clue where the team is. 1-1 vs "good teams". 4-1 vs the rest of the league but the teams are so bad anybody half decent should be 5-0. But they're in first place.

Yes we should all just shut up and stop mentioning that baseball has an economic system that rules out 2/3rds of the league from ever being serious contenders.
Really the only way anyone could be happy with the way baseball works is if you are a Yanks/Sox/Dodgers/Cubs fan.
Never said that people should shut up about criticizing the system. Valid criticism is entertaining and thought-provoking to read. Whining is not. I wasn't pointing fingers at anyone in particular in this forum.
Like it or not (and many don't), the present system is what we have for baseball. Taking that into consideration, I try to think about and appreciate the sport within the constraints of what we have at any given time. It is a lot of fun to watch when a smaller market team operates smartly and has success against the monoliths of the Major Leagues. At least it's fun for me. It's also a lot of fun to see what moves the big boys make to try and outdistance the other. I don't think it's impossible for a smaller market team to compete, but their margin of error is undoubtedly much thinner, and it's compelling to see what the little guys do, and how meticulously they can operate, to try to strive for greatness.

I concur.
Well FUCK YOU too then.
What I mean is - could you elaborate on this for me.
This is based on a far from the scene view, I work with both Red Sox Fans and Yankee fans . Down here in NC, Yankee fans are quite about winning, Red Sox fans go on and on about how the Yankees are reuining baseball by paying these high salaries, last time I checked the Red Sox are right up there with them. They are also more obnoxious winners glaoting about it. Again based on a comparison of the 2 teams fans from a distance.

Shocker of shocker, I have to agree with the bolded statement. A large majority of Red Sox fans are pussies who have a massive inferiority complex when it comes to the Yankees . Now don't get me wrong--I hate the Yankees with every fiber of my being strictly out of principle--but I would never be so hypocritical as to gripe about how the Yankees "bought" a WS when the Red Sox are just as guilty of employing that tactic.
You'd be shocked at how many Red Sox fans I know still gripe about the Yanks payroll. When I point out that the Sox are #4 on the list with $125 million (and until recently, had been #2) and there's really not that much of a difference between $200 M+ and $100 M+, their response usually starts with, "Yeah I know, but it doesn't matter..."
So yes, I can see how many find Red Sox fans aggravating.

Gremlin you always speak the truth.......Sox fans annoy the shit out of me...they make a bad impression for all of us lifelong fans, especially after 07....most of all I hate the "pink hats"- loudmouth MILFs who suck on their bud light beers and have watched the Sox "all their life".....bullshit, you got interested in 04 and you felt entitled in 07....just go watch the game at Applebees or Chilis with your fat Jabroni husbands so the real fans can get a ticket once in awhile....these women all act like they are still in high school and dress that way too....great ass but no class.....gahhh I hate Massachusetts

I think their parade is today. Does anybody have any good news to share from the parade?
Some rain? Perhaps the Earth opening up and swallowing some of the fanbase?

To be honest most real Red Sox fans hate the term " Red Sox Nation " as much as most real Cowboy fans hate the term " America's team ".
