|Cooler heads have prevailed. The NCAA will not be expanding the tourney to a ridiculous 96 teams.
Instead the tourney is going from 65 to 68 teams meaning that each of the #16 seed positions will now be settled by a play in game.
Even better, the NCAA has worked out a new TV deal.
The NCAA Tourney features multiple games taking place simultaneously during the 1st, 2nd, and regional quarterfinal rounds. That has required CBS to regionalize games without always satisfying everyone. Henceforth all games will be seen live by every via CBS, TNT, TBS, and TruTV. Since there are never more than 4 games going at a time, each network will show a game and fans can channel flip at their leisure.
