Does Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Karim Abdul-Jabbar count? NBA guy sued the NFL RB to change the spelling on his first name IIRC.

There were 2 guys named Stephane Richer in the NHL at one point. The goal-scorer from the Canadiens and an obscure D-man.

2 guys named Petr Sykora in the NHL earlier this decade

There's Jim Kelly the NFL Hall of Famer, Jim Kelly the sports broadcaster, and Jim Kelley the hockey writer

Lew Alcindor changed his name to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the 70's.

Sharmon Shah changed his name to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the 90's, while he was a running back at UCLA. Same school as the original, same Number 33. The original Kareem seethed as UCLA sold #33 jerseys.

The original Kareem had enough when the Miami Dolphins drafted the new Kareem, and started selling jerseys that read "Abdul-Jabbar" with #33, and sued. They settled, and the new Kareem became Karim, and his new jersey only said "Karim" on it.

James Jones was also a RB for the Lions in the 80s

EDIT: There was also Jimmy Jones, a pitcher for the Padres and Yankees in the late 80s/early 90s

I also believe that there was another guy named Bret Butler who I think played for the Rockies?

Jayson Williams is the murderer, Jason was a white guy on Orlando.
