ESPN is reporting that Wade and Bosh will announce later today they are playing for the Miami Heat. Not sure if Bosh is signing a free agent contract or doing a sign and trade with the Raptors. He would stand to make alot more money with a sign and trade.

They gutted the roster much like Boston did when they got the Big 3. Chalmers and Beasley are decent pieces. Varnado and Butler could develop into decent role players. Still, I think tis season will be lean for Miami unless they fill out the roster with some decent lower level free agents.

NBA.com is reporting this as well.  Most are expecting a sign and trade for Bosh.

I think they'll work a sign and trade. They still have time to negotiate. Contracts can't be signed until tomorrow at the earliest. Bosh will go to Miami either way, but it could help all 3 parties (Miami, Toronto and Bosh) to work a sing and trade.

Miami is shopping it's trading pieces for other options as well though, so we'll see. They've been linked to Brendan Haywood for a while, but Dallas doesn't seem to want to let him go.  Haywood would be a good fit as he plays tough interior defense.

Sign and trades only work if both teams have players the other wants. Miami has nothing and Toronto has said there will be no sign and trade with the Heat.

There is always a way to make it work (cash, picks, getting another team involved). And Toronto has gone back and forth on whether they'd do a trade all week. What a team says and what they do are usually different things. Let's wait and see.

If Toronto signs Bosh for a huge max contract, and then trades him for parts (cuz Miami has shit to give in return) then they are strapped with a bunch of scrap players with fat contracts, aren't they?

Don't they have to trade equal salary values? Unless they all have expiring contracts, or a third team can get in I see sign and trade to be a poor option for Toronto. They'd be better off letting Bosh go and freeing up the cap room.

Right now the pieces Miami has to deal with are Michael Beasley, Mario Chalmers, rights to this year's draft picks (all second rounders), and future draft picks. The Heat cleared everything out in order to have room to keep Wade and simultaneously attract Bosh and/or James plus who knows who else. Toss Wade and Bosh out the window along with the Heat's draft picks and the team has literally two other players under contract, Beasley and Chalmers. Neither of those two are under contract beyond 2010-11 although the team has an option for Beasley that it will almost certainly pick up or use as trade collateral.

Toronto is better off not taking beasley in a sign and trade, and take nothing in return. They're going to suck next year anyway, so they may as well start clearing cap space now and look toward the 2011 season with hopes of drafting high and having money to spend in the FA market then.

They did indeed work a sign and trade for Bosh.  Toronto gets a couple of picks and a trade exception which gives them added cap space.  Toronto's "we will do it", "we won't do it" act just reeked of a team working its options to me.  Just makes more sense to get it done.  Miami can get him to take less per year for cap reasons, because he can get a good bit more overall this way with an extra year on the contract, and Toronto gets to pick up picks and valuable cap room (maybe cash too) instead of nothing.  And it keeps both sides as trusted trading partners (these two teams have made a few deals in the last few years).
