When I look at the Yankees weaknesses and what they need at the deadline, the first thought was not "This team really needs more outfielders and designated hitters." Looks like they will try to win it all with a horrid bullpen.

TORONTO (AP)—The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired pitcher Jake Westbrook(notes) from Cleveland and also sent outfielder Ryan Ludwick(notes) to the San Diego Padres.

The three-team trade involving a pair of division leaders was announced Saturday.


The NL Central-leading Cardinals got Westbrook and cash. They also got minor league pitcher Nick Greenwood from San Diego.

The NL West-leading Padres acquired Ludwick. The Indians got Double-A right-hander Corey Kluber from San Diego.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP)—The Tampa Bay Rays have acquired reliever Chad Qualls(notes) from the Arizona Diamondbacks for a player to be named.

The 31-year-old right-hander is 1-4 with 12 saves and an 8.29 ERA this season, striking out 34 and walking 15 in 38 innings, down from a career-high 24 saves last year.

NEW YORK (AP)—The Arizona Diamondbacks traded catcher Chris Snyder(notes), minor league shortstop Pedro Ciriaco and cash to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday for former AL Rookie of the Year Bobby Crosby(notes), outfielder Ryan Church(notes) and right-hander D.J. Carrasco(notes).

PHOENIX (AP)—The Arizona Diamondbacks traded away an All-Star pitcher for the second time in a week, sending right-hander Edwin Jackson(notes) to the Chicago White Sox on Friday for rookie Daniel Hudson(notes) and prospect David Holmberg.

Yanks apparently do address the bullpen and are close to getting Kerry Wood from Cleveland

Reliever Mark Melancon and some other guy were traded to Houston for Lance Berkman

Player to be named later to Cleveland for Austin Kearns

Colin Curtis and Juan Miranda sent to the minors to clear room for Kearns and Berkman

The Braves have acquired Kyle Farnsworth and Rick Ankiel from the Royals in exchange for pitcher Jesse Chavez, outfielder Gregor Blanco and pitcher Tim Collins

The  Cubs have traded pitcher Ted Lilly and second baseman Ryan Theriot to the Dodgers in exchange for infielder Blake DeWitt and two minor-league pitchers.

The Red Sox have traded Ramon Ramirez to the Giants, according to media reports.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired reliever Octavio Dotel(notes) from the Pittsburgh Pirates for right-hander James McDonald(notes) and minor league outfielder Andrew Lambo.

The Detroit Tigers have traded outfielder Wilkin Ramirez(notes) to the Atlanta Braves for a player to be named or cash.

The Boston Red Sox have designated outfielder Jeremy Hermida(notes) for assignment. Outfielder Ryan Kalish(notes) was called up from Triple-A Pawtucket to replace him on the roster.
