First news coming out is that Dawson and Bettis got the snub for this year's class.  This is getting ridiculous with Dawson being snubbed, again.

Richard Dent did get elected.  That is a well-deserving selection.

I cannot find the others who were elected.

I also saw Shannon Sharpe and Deion Sanders getting the nod. Ed Sabol and Marshall Faulk too.

I always thought of Bettis in the very good category. He's a little bit overrated in My mind. Hell, I can't believe Cris Carter isn't in yet. He's more deserving then friggin Dawson and Bettis.

He is No. 5 on the all-time rushing list and played on a shitty team for 3 years. Probably the best "big" back behind Earl Campbell.

Bullshit.  I am not saying that Carter does not belong in, but in their respective postions they are about even.

Dawson not being in is a fucking joke, the only guy who ever played center better than him is the guy who's place he took.

And that is even debatable....many give the nod to Webster on longevity but there has been no center able to pull for things like end-arounds like Dawson.  He was the total package of strength, speed and quickness for an offensive lineman.

As Voo's list points out, it's not really "rare", as one or two get in on first ballot almost every year, but it still seems reserved only for the best of the best.  I don't see any more than three in one year, and that only happened a few times.  I think Faulk and Prime Time are both worthy of 1st ballot inductions.

EDIT:  I think both Rice and Emmitt were first ballot guys last year.  Interesting that the two guys who are in first place of all the career rushing, receiving and TD records went in together.

I am not even making the case for Dawson to be a first-ballot selection but, let's look at first-ballot enshrinee Jackie Slater's stats....

  • Pro Bowl selection (1983, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990)
  • 3× First-team All-Pro selection (1987, 1988, 1989)
  •

Dawson's....and this is for center who changed the standards for a center.

  • Pro Bowl selection (1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998)
  • Associated Press First-team All-Pro selection (1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998)
  •

Dawson not being inducted makes no sense.  None.

The issue in football is that each team has 22 starters so there just isn't enough room to put everyone in.   Kenny Stabler isn't in.  Cliff Branch isn't in.   A guy like Chris Hanburger had to wait forever.  That's just the way it goes.
