Not sure Dirk would have made the difference at Stalingrad, but his game last night was one for the ages.  Brooks realy needs to show what he brings as a a coach because he obviously doesn't have a one on one answer for Nowitzki.

As of right now, Nowitzki's game is at a level I didn't think possible even three years ago.  Full credit to him, but let's not forget Kidd's contribution to that team.

It surprised me to see that game and him play like that.  Where the fucking hell has he been for the past few years.  I could only imagine if he had been like that for the past few years

He's been like that AT TIMES (OFTEN times, in fact) for many years.  It is doing it consistently and doing it when the going gets tough that has eluded him (Don't get me wrong, he's consistently great and he has had many of these "WOW" games in his career - but he gets criticized for different things at different times). Maybe he's made another leap up in his game at this relatively late stage in his career, but don't forget, these EXACT same revelations of the maturity of Dirk's game were all the rage 4 years or 5 years ago when he was MVP and his team was being talked about as multi-time champions half-way through game 3 of the Finals.

With that said, this is as deep and complete a team he has ever played with, IMO. It's not like Dirk has never played at an MVP level before or had monster games at important times. He most defnitely has. So we'll see how the rest of these playoffs shape up.

He was like that all of the playoffs in 06, til Game 3 where D-Wade and the Ref's decided it was time for some action

Very true.  And that was the moment that Dirk was on the verge of getting universal acclaim as one of the greats. Instead, it looked like the preferential treatment Wade was getting, and the energy it gave the Heat, deflated Dirk and the Mavs.  He and his team didn't respond to it very well, IMO. Then a couple of years of playoff disappointment and Dirk's rep was back where it was before '06. My point is that he didn't suddenly up his game. He's been this good. He's just having a really good season all around and is surrounded by a very good team that is clicking this year.

As of right now, DWade id the most protected player in the league.  One man's opinion and all that.....

Brooks needs to double or triple Dirk and force the ball out of his hands. Let the other guys beat you. OKC also didn't have a clue when Dallas first went to that zone. That turned the game in favor of Dallas.
