The Sox didn't really give up a ton of a lot to get him, but I still hate this deal. Harden is useless.

Don't sweat it - the trade fell through.

Pirates got Derrek Lee from the O's for a bag of baseballs (aka a class A player). Even if he doesn't get back to his prior levels even this year's version is better than Overbay.

The Cubs turned down the Pirates' offer of a similar deal for Carlos Pena, for reasons beyond my comprehension. Pena is 38 years old and is only signed through this year. What on earth is the incentive for the Cubs to keep him?

Word was the Cubs weren't interested in a trade since they felt they can re-sign him for next year.

Thank God for small favors. I'd rather they stand pat than have to put up with the frustrations Harden is sure to bring.

Derek Lee is a step up from what they have and even a past his prime Derek Lee is better than most first baseman the Pirates have had lately.  He is still strong defensively and if he can hit 8 Homeruns or so the rest of the way that will help.

I am okay with this trade, but I would have still liked to see a bigger splash ot get some help with some pop in the lineup with either a right-fielder or 1st baseman.  But, like you said, a Little Leaguer would probably have better hitting stats than Overbay.

Texas trade for reliever Uehara

What'd Cleveland give up for him?

3 minor leaguers & a PTBNL.  From ESPN,

To obtain Jimenez, Cleveland gave up right-handers Alex White and Joe Gardner and first baseman-outfielder Matt McBride.

Pence is going to the Phillies......WTF?

Damn, Beejmi, first your boys got Roy O last year and now you take the last bright hope we had this season. I am start to think that our new owner is going to raze the team entirely before things start to look up.:X

I wish that the Phils gave up Dom Brown instead of Cosart. Singleton could really be a special player for Houston in the future.

Brown sent to the minors for the rest of the season. Will be back up for the playoffs.

The Phillies are looking for Raul to be gone after the season. So Brown will likely play LF next year.

With less than two days remaining before the non-waiver trade deadline, the Cardinals have focused on acquiring a shortstop in a market an official with the team once described as thin on options at that position. As part of their search for an upgrade at shortstop, the Cardinals have had ongoing discussions with the Los Angeles Dodgers about switch-hitter Rafael Furcal, a baseball source confirmed to The Post-Dispatch.

Done deal.

LOS ANGELES -- Alex Castellanos, a power-hitting minor league outfielder who has yet to play at anything above the Double-A level, is the player the Los Angeles Dodgers are getting from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for Rafael Furcal, the Dodgers announced Sunday.
