Didn't see one for this year, so here goes:

Jonny Gomes gets traded to the Nationals for 2 minor leaguers.

Brandon Inge gets sent down to the minors(thank god).

PS....by the way, caught the mistake in the title....hilarious.....

Why did the Nats want Gomes? They aren't going anywhere.

Maybe preraring for next year. Harper and Strassburg may see playing time next year. Nats might be a factor.
No room for Gomes in Cincy outfield.

How is that a salary dump? They traded 2 minor leaguers for him. They took on payroll.

Anyway, with the O's in freefall it seems the Nats are attempting to make a move on becoming the dominant team in the Mason-Dixon region. Not a bad idea but they need to do it in better ways than handing out absurd contracts to Jayson Werth.

Also, since when is getting TJ surgery the death knell for a pitcher's career?

I was not impressed with the Nationals ballpark, about as generic a new ballpark as they make these days.  Camden Yards even for bad baseball still has more charm and easier to get to.

Rumors are that the Blue Jays have acquired Edwin Jackson & Mark Teahen from the
White Sox for Jason Frasor & a prospect.
Jackson would then be flipped to the Cardinals for Colby Rasmus. There
might be other players involved in the Rasmus deal.

The prospect going to the Sox with Frasor is Zach Stewart. He was expected
to make the Jays starting rotation next year.

On paper, that looks like a real crappy deal for the Blue Jays.  Why would they have done that?  They're below .500 and 11 games out from the Wild Card.

It depends on the Cardinals deal. The Jays need an outfielder. Corey Patterson
& Rajai Davis aren't cutting it. Rasmus is only 24 & the Jays see him as their
centerfielder for the future.  Plus if the Jays can't get a thirdbaseman in the offseason, they might put Bautista back at third.

This from ESPN.

The St. Louis Cardinals have traded center fielder Colby Rasmus to Toronto for a multi-player package that includes starting pitcher Edwin Jackson, sources tell ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.

Jackson was dealt earlier Wednesday from the White Sox to the Blue Jays to set up the Toronto-St. Louis trade.

The Cardinals also are sending pitchers Trever Miller, Brian Tallet and P.J. Walters to Toronto for pitchers Marc Rzepczynski and Octavio Dotel and outfielder Corey Patterson, the sources told Olney.

Sources also told Olney that Miller will be sent to the White Sox.
