I didn't watch last night's fight between Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz but I watched clips of it this morning and that has to be the dirtiest victory I've ever seen.  Sure the rules say "protect yourself at all times" but the referee has to say "box" first!  Mayweather just came off like a punk and a dirty fighter.

Victor ortiz started the dirty fighting with the balrog style headbutt which in box if you get a cut can be opened worst so mayweather returned the favor and ortiz got dropped.and the ref did say box ortiz brought it upon himself cause he got made that floyd was laughing and tried to resort to some bush league tactics

Mayweather is the best heel in sport he is what dean malenko could be if he was a charismatic asshole

It looked like the ref said to go on, because he did the hand motions(30 sec mark in that link), and his opponent didn't bother to defend himself

was it cheap, I'm not to sure, because like I said, it appeared the ref gave the motions to continue, and he didn't yell at Mayweather and went right for the count

reading about it, it was not a cheap shot, the ref called time in prior to Floyd hitting him

Mayweather came out aggressively in the fourth, throwing a flurry of at least 15 punches and connecting with several before Ortiz managed to return fire. But Ortiz caught Mayweather against the ropes and unloaded midway through the round -- his best moments of the fight -- whipping the crowd into the white-noise wall of sound only championship fights can produce.
Near the end of the round, Ortiz bullied the challenger into his corner and drove his head toward the right side of Mayweather's forehead -- a contemptible deliberate foul that Ortiz blamed on "the heat of the moment" and apologized for profusely afterward. Mayweather immediately recoiled, while Cortez called time out and made the deduction. Ortiz made a spectacle of the apology, even kissing Mayweather on the cheek while the fighters were still in the corner.
Cortez said he called time in. Ortiz claimed he never heard it.
"Time was in," said Cortez, a seasoned referee who was inducted to the International Boxing Hall of Fame in June. "The fighter needed to keep his guard up. Mayweather did nothing illegal.
"
Ortiz, impossibly upbeat during the post-fight presser, differed with Cortez's account.
"It wasn't a fair fight," said Ortiz, who asked for a rematch.

Gayweather's a POS, and is ducking Pacquiao(sp), why? he knows he'll get his head punched off once he steps into the ring w/Manny.

Floyd is a funny guy. Worth millions, and he held up 2 car dealerships in Vegas, almost till they foreclosed on his home, , and he finally paid for the custom built cars he ordered.

I can't stand Mayweather, but he did nothing wrong last night, that was a just a brilliant move by a smart fighter. Ortiz is an IDIOT, yeah, you hugged up once, then he goes back? You can clearly see the ref call time in, and apparently Floyd was the only fighter paying attention...I want to see him get his ass beat, but I have to say, that was freaking brilliant to see last night..:D

The post-fight interview rant against Larry Merchant was hillarious, and I beleivbe Merchant was right later when he opined that Mayweather did it because he sensed the next question coming was if he was ready to fight Manny Pacquiao.

I agree with the "protect yourself at all times" mantra that Floyd is using here, but the ref fucked up as he was not watching the two fighters when Floyd punched Ortiz and likely was still trying to find out how much time was left in the round (round was basically over as the KO was at 2:59). No way did the ref call time in, IMO, he's covering his ass.

It was a helluva kick in the ass to the folks that paid 70 bucks to watch that PPV, though. Of course, it's boxing, so anyone still paying for it knows "buyer beware" is ALWAYS applicable.

Know what? I can't argue with you at all about the fact that Ortiz needed to protect himself. He fucked up!

Mayweather hit Ortiz twice.  Why didn't Ortiz react after the first punch?

He was looking at the ref expecting him to jump in and do something, and when that didn't happen he was like a deer in the headlights.

I kind of agree with how Dave Meltzer saw it, legal but bullshit. Technically Floyd did nothing wrong but the second punch was kind of a dick move since clearly Ortiz was not thinking the fight had restarted.

Even if you have no problem with the KO, him going off on Merchant (as funny as it was) seemed pretty uncalled for. Unless they have some kind of beef I'm not aware of, he just started going off before Larry ever said anything. Maybe a preemptive strike against being asked why he's dodging Manny like a little bitch? The world may never know.

He was pretty stunned after that first punch. It froze him.

I can tell you haven't watched boxing because Larry Merchant's post fight interviews against fighters he doesn't like (Mike Tyson, Roy Jones Jr, Bernard Hopkins, Mayweather) are always classic. Merchant is always great because he has the  smooth old senile smugness about him.
