Here is even more proof that the pussification of America continues,at elast in the sports world.

http://rivals.yahoo.com/highschool/blog/prep_rally/post/Statistically-speaking-TD-high-step-may-cost-RB?urn=highschool-wp9432

This one even has a video showing how goddammed stupid the "penalty" was.

That's terrible. My first instinct is to say he should have known better, because he was flagged for celebrating earlier, but then I watched the video and he just took a few high, long strides.

Regardless, the stuff where they take back touchdowns for celebrating has got to go. Assess that crap on the kickoff if you think it's necessary. I think that still stinks, but don't erase huge plays for kids on crap like that.

Now to the other point this video makes: where the hell is this kid going to college?? He looks like a monster. His numbers are outrageous. Player of the year in Texas 4A with over 3,400 yards and closing in on national and state records? I didn't know about this guy until now.

I see now that he's a 5-star recruit and is committed to the Longhorns.

I am familiar with this case because my nephew is in Texas 4A and was just bumped out of the playoffs last week. I am also familiar with Johnathon Gray. The kid is a beast. He will be in the backfield for Texas next year along with Malcolm Brown who is also a beast.

As far as this ruling goes. It states in the rules specifically that high stepping (along with a few other gestures like pointing to yourself or the sky) while going into the end zone is a penalty and you will lose the TD.

The rule is not new, but the part about losing the TD is new this year in Texas HS football and has been getting a lot of coverage.

The reason he was ejected from the game is because he received 2 Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalties which comes with an automatic ejection. Both of them we from TD runs.

My nephew's team came within 2 games of playing this kid. They were really excited about the possibility of playing him.

FBS just went to the "we'll call TD's back for celebrating/taunting" this year too. LSU's punter Brad Wing was the first one called on it.  It is absolutely terrible to call a TD back on that. I thought the kickoff penalties sucked, but at least that didn't erase well-earned points.  This is awful and needs to stop.

The problem isn't the penalties themselves, its the interpretation of the rules honestly

I saw nothing wrong with what the kid did, but the officials interpreted the rules as saying those high steps were showing off.  Were they?  Only the kid can answer, but I can see why the official thought he was as well

What they need to do is get rid of these black and white penalties and go back to the grey area again, and only call it when its obvious

What would be a legitimate reason to high step when no one is near you?

Gray and the Aledo Bearcats won the Texas 4A Division 2 State Championship today. He ran for 225 and 1 TD. The 1 TD broke the Texas High School All-Time TD record of 204 TDs. Gray ended his high school career with 205 TDs.

In the Texas 4A Division 1 game last night, the Austin Lake Travis Cavs won their 5th straight state title. I believe that this is the 1st time this has happened in any classification in Texas High School history.

Austin Lake Travis will be moving up to 5A next year. Johnathon Gray will be playing college ball for the University of Texas Longhorns.

What kind of humourless, joyless, cretinous cunt brings in a rule disallowing a score because someone fucking CELEBRATES it?

Why didn't you join the Soviet Union when you had the chance?  Surely a world where everyone is equal and therefore nobody ever wins any matches is exactly what these rules require.

The original reason the NFL started with excessive celebration penalties is because teams in the 80s started developing entire routines and it was getting ridiculous. Everything the NFL does has a trickle down effect to lower levels of football (college, eventually high school) since it's the most monkey-see, monkey-do sport in America by a large margin. The college and pro versions of the other major sports are barely similar.

This is like when you worked a territory where it was an automatic DQ for throwing an opponent over the top rope.

Your job is to follow the rule, not debate whether you thought it was fair.

They put the rules in, you follow them. Is it that tough?

Yeah it is there's no sense in following stupid rules.
