How is that a bad thing?   He's the guy that broke Manning into the league back in '98 through '01, with some monster numbers.

He's had the offense in the top 12 or so in the seasons he was OC in Shitsburgh.

He can rack up all the yardage he wants...he just has no clue on managing an offense to win games.

I wish him well in Indy.

He may turn out to be better than buttered bread there, but he was a HUGE piece of cow shit while he was in the Burgh.

Good riddance to the arrogant and gross bastard!

Hell they won a SB with his inept offensive play calling.  It always astounds me how fans claim they win in spite of Coaches.

It amazes me how some internet wrestling message board posters are idiots who think they know about a certain subject and are really clueless.

Take some time out and look at the numbers.  Huge yardage and little to show on the score board.  The red zone schemes are horrific.

Whether you like it or not, the Steelers have pretty much won in spite of Arians and that was based on a pretty strong defense.

The defesne has showed signs of age over the last few years and the plan which has been acknowledged by the front offense was for the offense to explode with younger talent and rely less on the defense to win the games.  The scores show something completely different.

They were ranked 23rd in the AFC with points this year.

Last year they ranked 22nd.   A Super Bowl year.

From a Steelers website:

"Pittsburgh's passing attack did put up great numbers in the 2009 season in over all passing yards and 28 passing touch downs, which was 9 more passing TDs than in 2008. The other side of the coin is there were 6 less rushing touch downs, the third down conversion rate dropped 3% and redzone scoring efficiency dropped a little to 21 st in the NFL from the 2008 season."

When the defense failed or stalled in games, the Steelers offense did not step up to the task with a $100 million QB, many weapons at the receiving positions and multi-faceted running back.  For too long, we kept hearing execution, execution and execution, but soon almost anybody that followed the Steelers saw that the play-calling and the offensive schemes is where most of the blame had to be designated.  Bubble-screens to the receives for three straight downs....wow!

Ben became too cozy with Arians and it basically came down to Ben calling the schemes.  It is no secret that Ben wanted to launch the ball as much as he can, because passing numbers and yardage totals are good for personal achievements and $$$$ money for future contracts but these did not produce a strong offense for the team.  Look at the numbers!  They do not lie.....high yardage totals and pass attempts and competions and little to show for it.

So, lets' get back to who is outstanding with a bunch of bullshit that they obviously know nothing about.

Yet they won games.  Lots of them.

And I must be looking at the wrong stats then, can you help me out?

Per NFL.com -

2011  AFC Regular season stats for scoring - #10 Pittsburgh Steelers (#21 overall in NFL)
2010 AFC Regular season stats for scoring - #6 Pittsburgh Steelers (#12 overall)
2009 AFC Regular season stats for scoring - #6 Pittsburgh Steelers (#12 overall)

Regards,
A humble message board idiot that did indeed look at the numbers

If we want to look at the geek y numbers, then let's do so.   For this argument, it seems I am debating with a bunch of Fantasy Freaks, so I needed to make it clear about the inconsistencies with this worthless bastard...Arians.

I found this in the world of stats geekdom:

With that said, let’s turn our attention to Arians. He has a track record of inconsistency. Some games (or some drives), his offenses have looked unstoppable. There have been plays and drives that were just beautiful to watch. Then, there have been the wasted redzone opportunities. How many times have we seen quick passes from about the 4 yard line that were thrown into the middle of the field? In that situation, there are always many defenders in the area. I can’t remember a single time when that play resulted in a TD, but it often looked like the Steelers were lucky that it wasn’t an interception. As many Steelers fans have stated, the reason Arians should go is that he hasn’t shown a good feel for play calling. He calls too many empty sets in 3rd and short, for example. He wastes good drives with poor redzone play calling. This year, there were several games where the 4th quarter collapses were as much the offense’s fault as the defenses. Whether they didn’t bury the team when they were clearly dominating earlier in the game, or they didn’t score any points (or in some cases, even gain a first down) in the 4th quarter, the offense clearly contributed to many of the losses.
With that lengthy introduction, my purpose in this post is to review all of the NFL teams in history who had a 4000 yard passer and see where this Steelers team ranked in terms of points scored. In fact, I looked at a few other things as well, but I will get into those very soon. I actually first looked at teams with a QB of over 4300 yards passing since Ben had just over 4300 yards this season. As usual, I pulled my data from Pro-Football-Reference.com.
Using their Player Season Finder, I pulled the individual seasons that a QB had over 4300 yards and 4000 yards respectively. Both were sorted by passing TDs scored. Of players who have passed for 4300 yards, Ben ranked tied for 31st (with 4 other players) out of 41, with 26 TD passes. So, of course, a 4300 yard passing season is nothing to sneeze at, but this season ranked in bottom 25% of such seasons in terms of passing TDs. I then looked at his season against 4000 yard passers. He tied for 55th (with 8 other players) out of 84. Again, in the bottom 3rd of that group. Again, a 4300+ yard passing season is a great accomplishment, but among such seasons, this one was well below average.
That leads me to the next point. The real issue is not so much how many TD passes Ben threw. The issue how many points this “explosive” offense scored. For each season represented, I looked up and recorded how many points they scored for the season. Among teams with a 4300 yard passer, this offense ranked 35th out of 41 in points scored. When we include all 4000 yard passers, the team ranks 67th out of 84 teams.
In addition to points scored, I recorded team ranks in points scored and yards gained. The reason I did this is that I believe that the Steelers offense wasted too many opportunities, which I believe is reflected in the fact that their offensive ranking in points is 5 places lower than their yardage ranking. For each team, I calculated the difference in their respective offensive rankings by subtracting the points ranking from the yards ranking. The resulting difference is, I believe, an indicator of wasted offensive opportunities to score points.

Teams that the Steelers should be blowing out....they were barely breaking 14-20 points.  Look at the Colts game, the Jaguars game, the Chiefs game....they are there.  This was all due to shitty play-calling.

Here is a good summary of how this piece of shit screwed up the offense DESPITE your happy numbers about yardage:
After Arians took over and moved to more two-tight or three-tight end sets rather than using a fullback the Steeler running game became much less efficient. The backs still racked up a bunch ofyards (finishing 3rd, 23rd, 19th, 11th, and 14th in Rushing Yards) but those yards didn't necessarily translate into points. When you compare the amount of attempts by Steelers backs, you just don't see the results you would expect. In Arians' five seasons, they were in the top 10 in the league in Rushing Attempts 3 times (3rd in 2007, 9th in 2008, and 8th in 2011). But during that time they ranked in the top half of the league in Yards Per Attempt only once (2007). In fact, our worst two seasons in Yards Per Attempt were 2008 when we had the 9th most attempts but were 29th in Yards Per Attempt and 2010 when we were 8th in attempts but 18th in Yards Per Attempt.
You might be wondering - how is this an issue of scheme? With the elimination of the fullback, the Steelers were reliant on multi-tight end sets. This particularly hurt the Steelers in the red zone, where their red zone efficiency numbers were downright awful. For a team that prides itself on running the ball, the Steelers ranked in the top 12 in rushing touchdowns only twice during Arians' tenure. The Steelers were 14th or worse in Red Zone Efficiency in 4 of the 5 years when Arians called the shots. Over his five year career, Arians' offense averaged 53.4% in Red Zone efficiency.
From my perspective, Arians' offense operates on a basic schoolyard principle. The key to success is for the quarterback to have enough time to find someone open. Most of the time this comes from Ben extending the play with his feet and one of the receivers improvising downfield. Arians doesn't have plays that are designed to get specific guys open. If you watch the elite offenses in the league, like New England, New Orleans, Green Bay (and Indy before this season), their offenses all have specific plays that get guys open.

No, everybody who watches the team every week and watched the offense flounder in inconsistency, we have no idea what the hell we are talking about when it comes to this piece of worthless shit.

That just astounds me coming from some fantasy-geek free-basers.

No one ever said you didn't know what you were talking about.  Calm down and quit telling everyone they're idiots and being such a douchebag before you have an aneurism.

All of what you said is taking numbers and running calculations and then using them to try to prove your point.  I wasn't throwing out "fantasy geek" numbers.  I was simply saying that for all of the points you're attempting to make...they still won games under him or in spite of him.  Or the fact that you're not  factoring in poor play, poor decisions or other reasons for why those on the field weren't able to score.

This is why most people can't stand the Steelers and their fans.

Long and short of it is that the Steelers put up big offensive numbers in total yards but were downright awful in the red zone and settled for way too many field goals because they could not punch in the ball when they got 1st and goals from inside the 10 yard line.

When you play a football game and you have 4 field goals from the red zone and you end up losing by 2 points that makes you realize that if even 1 of those FGs were a TD you would have won,and that goes right back to shitty playcalling by the OC.

I don't have the numbers and don't need them,I know that between the 20's the Steelers were as good as anybody, but they sucked ass in the red zone, and that's where football games are won and lost.

I never broke bread with Stingmark. The only person I had words with here I apologized to was Rossi because I actually was in the wrong with that one.   Little thing called real life got in the way.   I could go into detail why I was gone, but it wasn't just from here I was off of the Web as a whole for a bit, but hey don't let that stop your posturing.  I owe none of you fuckers anything in that regard.  If you choose to believe I ran away like a little scured bitch, then please go right on ahead believing that. I just saw no point when my travails ended in continuing a flame war with Stingy over nothing. You want to say he got the best of me in our little exchanges fine. I never came back and begged forgiveness for my transgressions, it is called moving on.

Now, seeing as how you decide to paint this picture of me being some dispshit little shit stirrer that runs and hides when  my clever barbs fail to only be put in check by you IWC Gods  could you please give me some examples?  Where are the sissified fag comments at?  With the exception of that couple week period I was off the Internet when exactly have I ran away and stayed away?  I mean fuck dude, you want to hate then at least get your facts right.
