Please don't tell me you think that wasn't a cheap shot just because it was Crosby getting hit.

There are about 20 of those type of " cheap shots" a game in the NHL.

....and that's why the NHL struggles to get any kind of viewership outside of Canada and a few US cites within a few hours drive of the border.

The reaction to all this has been hilarious, first some scrub cross checks the face of the league on the way to the bench (from behind, way after the play is over). Then the team that is supposed to be all about being rough completely and totally loses their shit when one of the Pens' fourth liners levels a guy cleanly center ice.

That doesn't even cover Mike Milbury going on radio and making fun of Crosby's concussions and calling Bylsma a pussy I guess for not walking across to the Flyers' bench to single-handedly fight the entire team? I'm sure Dan would beat Milbury's ass but Mike would want no part of him considering he doesn't play on a pee wee team.

So, are You trying to say that there should be seperate rules for Crosby & Malkin compared to the rest of the players in the league? If so, now You understand on why most NHL Fans can't stand Pittsburgh or Crosby. Second, Brayden Schenn isn't " some scrub" who hit Crysby. The Kid was the top Junior prospect in the World last year.  I do agree with You that the Hit on Briere was a good, legal hit, but Malkin & Crosby are 2 of the dirtest players in the league and Schenn was paying Crosby back from a dirty play earlier in the game.. Did You see when Crosby slashed Voracek so hard across His Leg that Crosby stick shattered in Two with no penalty call, right in front of the Ref? I guess that's fine because it's Crosby.

Schenn was not the top prospect last year.

Agreed - he might have been LA's top prospect last year but he definitely wasn't the top overall prospect.

He was third behind Nugent-Hopkins and Larsson, so let's not act like he was a nothing prospect.

I'm pretty sure cross checking a guy way after the play is over is a no no already, so no I'm not calling for special rules for Crosby.

This is the same shit that pissed Mario off and is the reason he never wanted to do any PR for the league. Every other major sport realizes you need to keep your money making stars on the field. It's bullshit that the NFL calls roughing if someone lightly brushes Brady as they run by, but you know what? He's Tom Fucking Brady and makes them a bazillion dollars so I get it. The NHL lets their top guys (not just the ones who play for the Pens) get beat on and all it does most cases is shorten their careers. The whole dinosaur mentality that exists where you have to let the lesser skilled guys hang on/beat up the stars is by far the #1 thing holding the league back.

Don't believe me? Consider that they are considering bringing back the red line in an effort to prevent concussion causing hits (which wouldn't address that issue but whatevs), and anyone under 60 knows all that will do is bring back the mid 90s New Jersey style obstruction filled borefests that will have viewers snoozing in their seats. It sometimes feels like the NHL goes out of their way to come up with ways to keep their most exciting players bottled up.

That wasn't from the message board, it was from Hockeysfuture.com.

I know the boards are a joke, but those are the actual rankings

Craig Berube said that Crosby and Malkin are " .....the two dirtiest players on their hockey team ". Berube would be an expert on playing dirty so maybe he's right.

from tsn.ca:

The bad blood between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers just keeps spilling over.

Flyers assistant coach Craig Berube threw his two cents into the war of words on CSN Philly's Daily News Live Tuesday, calling Penguins stars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, "the two dirtiest players on their hockey team."

"They slash, they punch guys in the face they do all these little things," said Berube. "I got no problem with what Schenn does, and if somebody runs [Crosby] over, that's great, they should run him over. This guy gets away with too much in my opinion, whines to the refs all day and all night, it's a joke."

Berube's comments are just the latest in a heated set of exchanges between the two teams that began during the Flyers 6-4 win over the Penguins on Sunday.

The game ended with a line brawl and 52 minutes in penalties being shared between the two teams from just that incident.

One of the factors that touched off the fighting was a cross-check to Penguins forward Sidney Crosby's back by Flyers forward Brayden Schenn that was followed by a hit on Danny Briere by Joe Vitale.

On Monday, NHL analyst Mike Milbury lashed out at Crosby and Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma on Philadelphia 's Sports Radio 94WIP.

Milbury said that Bylsma, "should have taken off his skirt" and done more to confront Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette.

Milbury also spoke out about the actions of Crosby during the game.

"Crosby gets cross-checked, big whoop," Milbury said. "He said after he came back from his 35th concussion, 'I'm not going to do this anymore, I'm not going to get into those scrums, I'm going to stay away from that stuff' but he couldn't help himself because there is a little punk in Crosby. He's not the perfect gentleman, he's not that little sweet kid you see in all those interviews with his hat pulled down over his eyes. I say screw him, hit him."

Milbury's comments prompted an angry response from Penguins' general manager Ray Shero.

"If it was an attempt at comedy, it falls real short," Shero told TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun on ESPN.com on Tuesday. "It's fine to have an opinion on players but when you're making light of concussions, that's not right...

"There's nothing funny about [former Flyers captain] Keith Primeau having to retire from it. This is an issue that is at the forefront of our league right now and to make light of these concussions is a real lame attempt at humor. He should know better than this."

Milbury then apologized for his comments.

"I reached out to David Morehouse and the Penguins about the comments I made yesterday on Philadelphia radio." Milbury said in a statement. "In hindsight, I realize what I said was inappropriate and wrong, and I want to apologize to the Penguins organization and their fans."

The Penguins and Flyers will meet one more time in the final game of the season and also look to be headed towards a first round playoff matchup
