Not being confrontational, but he's a FA, so there's no trade that would be involved.

And several outlets are reporting that he met with the Dolphins and they are negotiating...

Reports here say the dolphins have made an offer to smith. Multi year
8 mil a year. He better take it. No other team would want him.

I don't believe it was.  The offer was there and supposedly, he wanted 5 years.  But, he was quoted as saying he was happy with the deal they offered.

But then, the Manning news broke...

Yes. The offer was there and he turned it down. Niners don't want to give him more than 3 yrs. That idiot balked at the offer. Niners then made an offer to Manning.

Aaron Ross to the Jags ($15mmm over 3 years): http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/20/jaguars-sign-ex-giants-cornerback-aaron-ross-to-three-year-deal/

Thanks for the contributions to two title winners Aaron. We appreciate it.
He is one of the best TACKLING CB's in the league, and one of , if not the worst, COVER CB's. Always seemed to be the weak link last year. And he absolutely cannot return punts-Phil McConkey was more elusive.
That said, he helped us win two titles and I wish him the best. We'll be better next year if Terrell Thomas is healthy.

Hines Ward announced his retirement, probably since he didn't get any interest despite most of the league throwing money around like a drunk sailor at anyone who can catch a ball.

Hilarious to see all the comments on Facebook acting like Ward did some sort of favor to Pittsburgh by not signing with another team, when it most likely wasn't his choice.

Ward is done and he knows it. He's an all-time great and fave to Steeler fans and a total scumbag to Ravens. The rest of us, we're indifferent. He was a heck of an athlete at UGA though.

good, he still sucks and Benlen is correct, he'll lose his job to Matt Moore or the Fish go down in flames until they realize he's not a starting QB. He had an ok season last year after being a complete bust before that. Niners in a tough spot now though because who else is available for them to go after instead of Smith?

The "idiot balked at the offer" b/c he was led to believe he would be the starter there for years, then they go and start talking to Manning, why wouldnt the guy get mad and turn down their offer? I'd do the same thing if I were Smith, and you would too.

I just hope Smith bolts and leaves the 49ers to go to get Jamarcus Russell, Vince Young, or some crap like that. I hate those bastards.

Smith overvalues himself. He's not that good. If he doesn't sign with the niners where's he gonna play?

I heard Smith can get a job with the Edmonton Eskimo's as their backup.
