I just hope Smith bolts and leaves the 49ers to go to get Jamarcus Russell, Vince Young, or some crap like that. I hate those bastards.they don't need anyone. They have better talent at qb on the bench. If they want a veteran on the bench I suppose the best choice would be hassleback or young.

Wait so the Niners offered him money and he declined so then they went after Peyton Manning is that how it went
Yes. The offer was there and he turned it down. Niners don't want to give him more than 3 yrs. That idiot balked at the offer. Niners then made an offer to Manning.

The "idiot balked at the offer" b/c he was led to believe he would be the starter there for years, then they go and start talking to Manning, why wouldnt the guy get mad and turn down their offer? I'd do the same thing if I were Smith, and you would too.

Smith ain't shit. The guy is a mediocre backup at best. Even his "great" season this year wasn't anything outstanding. He needs to take any offer he gets. They have tried to replace him SEVERAL times, and not a damn one of them could hold Manning's jock strap.

QB Josh Johnson visiting Niners.
Niners offer still on table of 3 yrs 24 mil to Smith but he's acting like a crybaby.

I hope the Niners realize they caught lightning in a bottle with Smith as their QB last year. He'll likely return to form this yar. Hell, he returned to form in the NFC Championship game.

If other teams are able to figure out the Niners system and the Niners are stuck having to call plays designed for Smith to make a "big" play to compensate, they'll be lucky to finish at 8-8 next year.

They need to get that offer off the table and tell Smith to look elsewhere ASAP, otherwise it's back to mediocrity.

Smith finally signs for the 24 mil with 16 mil in incentives. Signing Moss and Manningham is a waste now. He locks on to Davis and ignores the others.
fuck.

Benlen, I'm curious to your thoughts on this...My buddy who is also from SF posted this on FB about Smith -

The Alex Smith pile on from every possible media outlet is silly. He's every bit as good as guys like Cassel, Fitzpatrick, Freeman, Hasselbeck, and other third tier QBs. And much, much better than Sanchez. They had a brand new offense last year and it took 4-5 weeks and a Chilo Rachal benching before the offensive line got going (and they were still blown up by Baltimore later in the year). And as much as they are billed as a running team, they weren't very effective - the 4.1 ypc ranked in the bottom half of the league. The receiving corps looked okay before injuries wiped out Morgan and Edwards, which left Crabtree (who was playing hurt) as the only legitimate option for most of the year other than Davis. The play calling in the redzone was EXTREMELY conservative any time the 49ers had a lead or the game was close.

And yet! Yet, he still did this:

2011: 90.7 rating, 61.3% for 3144 yards, 17/5 TD/Int + 2 TDs rush
Playoffs (2 games): 101.0 rating, 53% for 495 yards, 5/0 TD/Int + 1 TD rush

Better get your jabs in before he's Super Bowl MVP. The 49ers offense will be far better in 2012. The line, running backs, and receivers were all trying to learn the offense during the season and they should be improved across the board.

2012 prediction: 63% for 3700 yards, 25/10 TD/Int which should be good for a rating in the low to mid 90s.

http://blogs.nfl.com/2012/03/21/bunkley-goes-to-saints-on-five-year-25m-contract/

Bunkley to the Saints, 9M guaranteed.  He is a good run stuffer which the Saints need.  I like this as I feel he will be a boon to the DT rotation with Ellis and Tom Johnson(this kid looked good in his limited chances last year and think he could be a beast).

He amassed those fantastic mediocre numbers playing a strength of schedule ranked 30th. Those yardage numbers and tds were near the bottom of the league among all startering QBs. Harbaugh was smart to limit the pass attempts. Gore had no chance. Defenses played the run first cramming the line. Redzone offense was non existent. Get to the 30 yard line , run the ball three times and set up Akers for a FG.

He had decent numbers and had his 4 minutes of fame vs the Saints. They were also (I believe 29th or 30th) piss poor against the pass. Smith rode the coat tails of the defense and special teams. Next year he's matched up Brady, Brees,Rodgers,Bradford and Eli. Niners won't win a shootout against those QB's.

The only thing I agree with your friend is his interception's will go up.SuperBowl MVP? What a joke. Niners fans are fucked for another 3 years.

What I meant was more geared towards what I saw, which was Smith fucking up a lot of simple passing plays the same way he did in the years previous to last season. Never mind the numbers, the old Alex Smith came calling in that Championship game.

Really? He played like shit the second half. They weren't moving the ball at all. He reverted back to his three plays and out mode. Only way the niners win that game is if they win the field position battle and kick a fg.

Bears get someone to compliment Forte as they've signed Michael Bush to a 4 year/$14M deal.
