On the upside, the Angels seem to have found their bats.  Obviously, I am hoping Weaver is fine and this is just a speedbump.

Didn't see the game last night but I think Hughes started so you have to grade on a curve.  :)

There is always that, but having to go to the bullpen in the first sort of balances that out.  Great game whatever the case.  Let's see what happens next

Took 2/3 from Yankees.  Rangers coming to town.  Hope springs eternal.

Angels take first two from the Rangers to pull within 2.5 in the West.

I predicted they'd win the west at the beginning of the year in the annual bet my friend and I make. Given that I also took the Yankees (what can I say, I'm a homer!), I threw the $20 down on the table a few weeks ago and conceded.

Rangers salvage the series with a 7-3 win.

Despite sucking the last two weeks, we still have the best record in the AL.

The Rangers will spend the entire week in the Bay Area.
Oakland will be 60% empty and then see sold out games vs the Giants.

We're dealing with some pitching injuries, but some kid from AA pitched well on Saturday (7 strikeouts, no walks in 6 innings), and Roy Oswalt will join the team soon.

The Angels have six quality pitchers to fill a five man rotation once Weaver comes back.  Not a bad problem to have, but some offense would be nice....

The good news:  Since April 28, the Angels have the best record in MLB, statistically 20 year old Mike Trout is the best player in baseball, Jerrod Weaver is back and won last night, Mark Trumbo is proving to be a total young stud, Whatshisnamer from St. Louis has added 80+ points to his average and is hitting well, middle infield gelling, relief pitching no longer the worst ever.

The bad news:  Rangers winning at same clip and they are anything but a fluke.  Wildcard not likely to come out of AL West absent multiple collapses in the AL East.  Lots of season left.

Oswalt sharp in 1st start of the season

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) Roy Oswalt pitched efficiently into the seventh inning in his first start of the season and the Texas Rangers won their seventh straight, beating the slumping Colorado Rockies 4-1 on Friday night.

Oswalt (1-0) allowed one run and nine hits in 6 2-3 innings to win for the first time since Sept. 27. The 34-year-old pitched with Philadelphia last season and signed with the Rangers on May 29.

Adrian Beltre and Mike Napoli both homered for Texas, which improved to a major-league best 13-3 in interleague play.

Christian Friedrich (4-4) allowed four runs and seven hits in six innings for the Rockies, who have lost 13 of 15.
