as of June 19, 2012

Reds 38 27
Pirates 34 31 4
Cards 34 33 5
Brewers 30 36 8.5
Astros 27 39 11.5
Cubs 22 44 16.5

Piarates are in second, Andrew McCutcheon is still on a tear hitting 325 with 11 homers and 37 rbi's
Pedro Alvarez doing his best Serrano from Major League impersonation batting is hitting 207 but has 12 homers and 34 RBI's. AJ Burnett is 7-2 with an era in the 3's. James McDonald is 5-3 but an era well under 3 at 2.32, Joel Hanrahan has 17 saves and a decent era. Doing it with decent pitching because outside McCutcheon only Neil Walker (271) and Garrett Jones (253 7 homers) are about 250. most around that Mendoza line.

The Pirates are not yet a legit threat in the Central.  They have great pitching, but they are lacking a couple good bats in that line up to really contend long term

Honestly, if the Reds stumble they have a shot. They lost Charlie Morton for the year with Tommy John surgery, but Jeff Karstens is about to return from a rehab stint and Rudy Owens is ready in AAA to take Brad Lincoln's spot since it's clear he's better as a long reliever than a starter. Their rotation has the possibility of getting even better if that happens.

The hitting seems to be starting to wake up a little bit, since there seems to be a vibe of "why not us?" surrounding the team. The further they go above .500 and in contention, it seems to instill more confidence in them. Still would like to see the front office show some confidence of their own and get a decent bat to help out before the pitchers all blow their arms out like last season.

The Pirates are apparently interested in acquiring Kevin Youkilis. The Red Sox are willing to include some cash in the deal to help facilitate things. Not sure if Boston is looking for prospects or someone they can immediately throw into the starting rotation.

Youklis would be a nice addition at first base

All I have been hearing is negative things about the guy.  I know nothing about him, but it seems alot of the sports talkers and people calling in want nothing to do with this guy.

Youklis to the White Sox so Pirates need to look elsewhere for a big bat.  Prehaps if the Phils keep falling Victorino is available?  not sure who else is out there right now

If the Jays gave the Pirates permission to negotiate with Edwin Encarnacion
on a contract extension, they might be interested. EE becomes an FA after
this season & the Jays would like to get something for him.

A change in scenery is whay it seems Youk needed is what I get from him.

Honestly, I thought for sure he would go to the Pirates, as there would be very little pressure in Pittsburgh
