from tmz.com:

Ex-New York Giants linebacker Michael Boley was quietly arrested for child abuse back in February ... 3 days after he was cut by the team ... TMZ has learned.

Boley -- a starting linebacker in Super Bowl XLVI -- had been under investigation in Alabama for a 2011 incident involving his son, who was 5 years old at the time.

The details of the alleged abuse are unclear, although sources tell us the allegations were of a physical nature and NOT sexual abuse.

Here's what we know ... Boley's case was scheduled to go in front of a grand jury in February 2013 ... but before that got under way, the 30-year-old NFL star struck a plea deal with prosecutors.

Court officials in Etowah County, AL tell TMZ ... Boley pled guilty to child abuse -- and in exchange, he was ordered to enroll in a pre-trial diversion program and upon completion the charge would be dropped.

Boley was also required to turn himself into authorities. He was booked on February 8, smiled for a mug shot and was released from custody later that day.

Seems the NY Giants were hip to Boley's legal issues ... 'cause he was unexpectedly cut by the team on February 5 ... 3 days before Boley turned himself in to authorities. Boley is currently a free agent, on the hunt for a job.

A rep for Boley had no comment -- but sources connected to the NFL star tell us Boley plans to comply with the terms of the plea deal.

Browns draft pick busted for DUI

Posted by Darin Gantt on May 6, 2013, 4:10 PM EDT

Character concerns were part of the reason Armonty Bryant fell to the seventh round of the draft.

And though he promised only days ago he had changed his ways, those concerns were proven valid.

According to Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal, the Browns defensive end was arrested for DUI in Oklahoma Friday, less than a week after he was drafted.

He was arrested in Ada, Okla., and according to the police report, the arresting officer had to perform the breath test 10 times because Bryant couldn’t or wouldn’t properly complete it. When he did it right, he blew a .098. After his arrest, he refused a blood test.

“We are aware of the incident and are now in the process of collecting more information,” Browns spokesman Neal Gulkis said in a statement. “We will not have any further comment.”

Bryant was suspended three games last season at East Central (Okla.) University when he was arrested for twice selling $20 worth of marijuana to an undercover officer, both times in the college’s parking lot.

On April 27, he told Browns reporters he had learned from his previous trouble.

‘“Good people make mistakes’ is something that I’ve always been told by my [college] coach,” Bryant said. “I feel like it was just a stupid move on my part. I should have been more mature about the situation and be more focused on football, which is something I really want to do with my life.

“Now that I’ve gotten that second chance, I feel like I won’t let anyone down. I won’t let myself, the people around me or the Cleveland Browns down. I appreciate them for taking this chance on me.”

The Browns sent defensive line coach Joe Cullen (who knows about putting trouble, if not pants, behind him) to work out Bryant prior to the draft.

“Looking into his background with coach Cullen out there, as well as our scouting staff, we felt like [Bryant] is past the mistakes he has made and ready to move on,” Browns coach Rob Chudzinski said April 27.

Apparently not.

Otis Nixon arrested with “a crack pipe in his pocket”
Aaron Gleeman May 6, 2013, 2:40 PM EDT

Longtime big leaguer Otis Nixon, who just a few months ago was accused of scamming the families of prison inmates out of money, was arrested over the weekend after police found him in possession of crack cocaine.

Alexis Stevens of the Atlanta Journal Constitution has more details:

Nixon, 54, had a crack pipe in his pocket and a crack rock in his vehicle when he was stopped on I-575 early Saturday, according to a Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office reported obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. …

“Otis admitted to me that the substance was crack cocaine but it didn’t belong to him,” a deputy wrote in the report. “Otis said the crack cocaine and the pipe belonged to his son.”

Nixon passed a field sobriety test and is currently being held on $11,880 bond.

Even when he was a leadoff man/center fielder who stole 620 career bases Nixon always looked like he was about 50 years old, but now that he’s actually 54 years old he appears to be about 104 in the mugshot. Bad times.

"Yeah officer, this crack isn't mine! I'm holding it for my son!"

What a stand up guy. Early Weasel candidate.

Nixon looked like he was on crack dating back to the early 1990's.

Mugshot is scary.

Suns’ Michael Beasley under investigation for sexual assault
Kurt Helin May 7, 2013, 4:35 PM EDT

Phoenix Suns’ forward Michael Beasley is under investigation by Scottsdale police for a potential sexual assault back on Jan. 13, according to ABC News 15 in Phoenix.

“At this point we can only say the investigation is ongoing,” said David Pubins, Scottsdale police spokesman. “We are interviewing those involved and processing any physical evidence we may have to try and determine if criminal charges are appropriate.”

There have been no charges filed and we do not know the details of what he is accused of doing. So don’t jump to conclusions here.

But it seems at least another bump in an already rocky NBA career for the former No. 2 overall pick in 2008. He has never matured into the scorer scouts thought he could be. Matured being the key word.

Beasley has two years remaining on the three-year, $18 million contract he got from current team president Lon Babby and fired GM Lance Banks. Now this falls in the lap of new GM Ryan McDonough – welcome to the job. The Beasley signing was one of the truly big misses of last free agency — with Steve Nash gone the Suns wanted someone to take over the role as leading scorer during as the team was rebuilt. Beasley was given every chance to grab that role but averaged a career low 10.1 points a game, didn’t seem to grasp how bad he was, and was eventually benched. After that he said he was basically done listening to people around the team for advice.

Beasley also was picked up by police last January for speeding in a car without a license plate while he had a suspended license. The team did not discipline him at that time.

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/ex-lion-young-arrested-two-014050989--nfl.html

Former Detroit Lions wide receiver Titus Young was arrested twice in 15 hours on Sunday in southern California.

According to a Moreno Valley Police Department report, Young arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after he made an illegal left turn in front of a patrol vehicle at 12:01 a.m. Sunday. Young was booked into jail and received a citation before he was released.

That afternoon, Young was spotted jumping a fence at a tow company where his Ford Mustang was impounded and arrested for burglary when police determined he was trying to retrieve his car. He again was booked into jail.

Young, a second-round draft pick from Boise State in 2011, ran into trouble numerous times last season with the Lions and was released on Feb. 4. He punched a teammate last spring, then lined up in the wrong spots during a game on Nov. 18 and was sent home. He ended the season on injured reserve with a knee problem.

Two weeks before he was released, he tweeted that unless the ball was thrown to him more he didn't want to play any longer.

The St. Louis Rams claimed Young off waivers but soon let him go. The 23-year-old Young is currently without a team.

Former Patriots, Saints CB Randall Gay arrested

Posted by Darin Gantt on May 9, 2013, 4:44 PM EDT

The offseason is a worrisome time for NFL players, even when they’re not NFL players any longer.

According to Jim Kleinpeter of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, former Patriots and Saints cornerback Randall Gay was arrested after a disturbance at a Baton Rouge bar.

Gay was charged with entry or remaining on premises when forbidden, two counts of simple battery, resisting an officer and disturbing the peace by public intoxication. Which is a lot of words for what sounds like a bar fight.

Police also arrested a woman, Desha Penco, for interfering with police officer and simple damage to property when she tried to kick out the window of the police car. Penco is listed as Gay’s wife in his Saints bio.

Both were released on bond this morning.

Gay won a national championship at LSU, and a pair of Super Bowls in the NFL. He retired after the 2010 season, which he finished on injured reserve after suffering a concussion.

The trifecta for Titus Young!!

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/05/12/titus-young-arrested-on-burglary-assault-charges/

Titus Young arrested on burglary, assault charges

Posted by Mike Wilkening on May 12, 2013, 2:40 PM EDT

Former Lions wide receiver Titus Young has again run into off-field trouble.

Young was arrested this weekend in San Clemente, Calif. on charges of burglary, assault on a peace officer and resisting arrest, Lt. Joe Balicki of Orange County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to PFT on Sunday afternoon.

Young is currently being held on $75,000 bail and is expected to be arraigned on Monday, Balicki said. The burglary and assault charges are felonies, Balicki said, with the resisting arrest charge a misdemeanor.

According to Balicki, the incident unfolded around 11:30 p.m. on Friday night when a homeowner contacted authorities alleging someone was inside her home. When sheriff’s officers arrived, they found Young outside the home, Balicki said. According to Balicki, Young ran away from officers. After a “brief” pursuit on foot, there was a “physical altercation,” Balicki said, with Young alleged to have fought officers before being taken into custody. Neither Young nor officers were hurt, Balicki said.

Earlier in the week, the 23-year-old Young was arrested on DUI and burglary charges.

Young showed promise in two seasons with the Lions, but the club released him in February. The Rams picked him up, but he lasted just 10 days with St. Louis. In his last game with the Lions, he is alleged to have lined up wrong on purpose, and the club essentially twice banished him after the incident.

The Detroit News first reported news of Young’s latest arrest earlier Sunday.

Colorado QB Jordan Webb, lineman Alex Lewis arrested for assault
POSTED: 05/12/2013 11:25:55 AM MDT
UPDATED: 05/12/2013 05:18:06 PM MDTBy John Henderson
The Denver Post

Colorado quarterback Jordan Webb and former Colorado offensive lineman Alex Lewis were booked Saturday on charges of second-degree assault from an incident Friday night, according to a Boulder County Sheriff's report.

Lewis, the starting left guard who announced Friday he was transferring to Nebraska, was also charged with two counts of harassment.

"Jordan's exact involvement in this incident is still being investigated," first-year Colorado coach Mike MacIntyre said in a statement.

"We continually stress the importance of appropriate behavior to our players and do not tolerate any detrimental conduct in our football program. Once all of the facts come to light, if Jordan is found responsible for any misconduct, he will be disciplined according to team rules.

"As for Alex Lewis, as of Friday he was off of the team when he did a media interview and announced that he is transferring to Nebraska. Since he is no longer a Colorado Buffalo, it will be up to Nebraska to decide what discipline he might face."

Lewis' attorney, Donald Brenner, said on his way to Boulder on Sunday that he doesn't know any details.

"From my preliminary investigation, my client got involved in a bad situation," Brenner said. "Justice will play itself out."

Webb, who started most of last year's 1-11 campaign, had surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee this past spring and hoped to return by late September.

Lewis and Webb were not available for comment.

Second degree assault in Colorado is a felony and considered a violent crime — it carries a mandatory prison sentence if convicted.

Ex-Jaguars receiver Jimmy Smith gets six years in prison

Posted by Michael David Smith on May 13, 2013, 6:57 PM EDT

Jimmy Smith, a five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver who is arguably the best player in the short history of the Jacksonville Jaguars franchise, recently began serving a six-year prison sentence for gun and drug crimes.

Although it has gone largely unnoticed in the media, Smith has been in prison in Mississippi since March 29, and his tentative release date is November 8, 2018.

Smith was sentenced to four years in prison for possession of cocaine and two years in prison for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

It’s sad to see anyone end up like this, but it’s particularly sad for Smith because his NFL career ought to be an inspirational story of a guy who believed in himself when few others did — and was proven right. He played his college ball at Jackson State after no big-time schools gave him a look coming out of high school, and he persevered after his football career fizzled in his first three years in the NFL, with the Cowboys cutting him in 1993 and the Eagles cutting him in 1994. Through his first three years in the NFL, he hadn’t caught a single pass.

But when the expansion Jaguars picked Smith up in 1995, he became a star: He lasted 11 years in Jacksonville and topped 1,000 yards in nine of those seasons, and by the end of his career he had totaled 862 catches for 12,287 yards and 67 touchdowns. Unfortunately, off-field trouble also plagued Smith: He was arrested for drunk driving in 2001 and suspended four games in 2003 for a failed drug test. Now his drug problem has ensured that he’ll be behind bars for a long time.

EAGLES STAR LeSEAN McCOY
Accused of
PARTY BUS ASSAULT

NFL superstar LeSean McCoy has been sued by a woman who claims the running back humiliated her on a party bus -- sprayed her with a beverage -- and then booted her from the ride on the side of the Jersey Turnpike.

According to the lawsuit filed by a woman using the alias "Mary Roe" ... the Philadelphia Eagles RB had invited 15 women to join him on a party bus that went from Philly to a NYC nightclub on December 18, 2012.

During the trip, the lawsuit alleges, McCoy, along with his bodyguard and a couple of other guys, began to spray some of the women with water.

Roe claims she protested the water spraying ... so McCoy ordered his bodyguard Big John to "get her."

In the suit, filed May 10 in Philadelphia, the woman claims McCoy and/or Big John proceeded to hit her in the face, causing her to fall to the ground.

While she was on the floor, the men allegedly physically restrained her and poured a beverage onto her hair, clothes and body.

And if things couldn't get worse ... the woman claims McCoy and Big John then forcibly ejected her from the party bus on the side of the New Jersey Turnpike.

But some of the women allegedly complained to McCoy about Roe getting the boot -- so she was snatched back up from the side of the road and placed back on the bus.

The woman claims she was taken to a nearby rest stop -- where the football player once again ditched her -- and continued on with his party trip.

Roe is now suing for more than $50,000 in damages for assault and battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, false imprisonment and negligence. Roe says she suffered head trauma, a disc protrusion on her spine, bad sprains, contusions and bruises all over her body, and severe shock.

We reached out to McCoy's reps -- and the Eagles -- so far, no word back.

Woman files sexual assault lawsuit against Nick Young
Kurt Helin May 15, 2013, 12:57 AM EDT

A woman has filed a civil lawsuit in Los Angeles against recent Sixer and now free agent Nick Young, claiming the guard met the woman at a bar, drugged and raped her two years ago, reports CBS 2 in Los Angeles and TMZ (via CSNPhilly.com).

The woman is seeking unspecified damages. This is not a criminal complaint against the Los Angeles native who played his college ball at USC and lives in his home town in the offseason.

According to the report, the woman says the two met at the Crown Bar in West Hollywood (and area of Los Angeles). The report, cititng the complaint, says that Young bought the woman and her friend a glass of champagne, and the next thing that she remembers she woke up at Young’s home naked and he said they were having intercourse until she passed out, then he stopped. The woman reports she went to the UCLA Santa Monica Rape Treatment Center, where tests found GHB — a known date rape drug — in her system.

We caution you not to jump to conclusions here, we don’t have his side of the story, this is not a criminal complaint with a police investigation and charges by the state.

But it’s something Young is going to have over his head this summer.

The six-year veteran gunner from the two guard spot averaged 10.6 points a game for the Sixers last season. He is a free agent this summer.

Mike Goodson taken into custody on drug, gun charges

Posted by Darin Gantt on May 17, 2013, 11:48 AM EDT

New Jets running back Mike Goodson has always been known for his speed.

But it’s amazing how quickly he got off to a poor start with a new team.

According to News 12 New Jersey, Goodson was taken into custody this morning on drug possession and weapons charges.

Goodson and a companion were in a stopped SUV along a highway, and he was being taken to a nearby hospital when officers searching the vehicle found marijuana and a loaded handgun.

Signed to a $6.9-million deal this offseason, Goodson would have ostensibly been teamed with Chris Ivory in an interesting backfield pairing.

But there have been questions about whether he could be trusted going back to his days at Texas A&M, and those appear to have been appropriate.

Report: Terrence Williams arrested in domestic violence case involving threats with a gun
Kurt Helin May 20, 2013, 7:58 AM EDT

Veteran NBA swingman Terrence Williams, who played last season with the Celtics, was arrested Sunday, according to multiple reports.

The charges stem from a domestic violence dispute in Kent, Washington (a city between Seattle and Tacoma that is part of the metropolitan area near where he grew up), according to the Kent Reporter.

The victim reported that the father of her 10-year-old son in common, identified as NBA basketball player Terrence D. Williams, arrived to her home for a scheduled visitation exchange of their son. She said during the exchange in the parking lot area an argument ensued. The victim reported that during the argument Williams brandished a firearm and made threats.

Williams left the area prior to police arrival, but was later located and taken into custody.

Williams was in police custody as of Sunday night, according to tweets from Chris Daniels of KING TV. The investigation is ongoing but police are booking him, Daniels reports.

Williams is currently under contract to the Boston Celtics for next season, however that is not guaranteed if he is waived before July 1, and only partially guaranteed if waived before Oct. 31. He joined the Celtics on a 10-day contract in February, stayed with them the rest of the season and actually caused some problems for the Knicks during their first round series against Boston.

Williams has played in four NBA seasons after the Nets took him with the No. 11 pick back in 2009 out of Louisville.
