David Akers just doinked a 63 yard field goal to tie the NFL record.

63 yard field goal by David Akers to end the half. The ball bounced off the cross bar and then over it. 49ers lead Packers 16-7 at half.

Why did the Eagles give up on Akers?

Nobody really knows THE reason. He was at that age where they let guys go when they want money. He was involved in some kind of shady investment thing off the field and word got out. And the playoff loss vs Green Bay a few years back he missed a couple (maybe three I forget) FGs. His range seemed to shrink to the point he was shaky from 40-45 yards out.

Basically a combination of small things but basically he pissed off Andy and Andy cut him loose without having an adequate replacement anywhere. I realize "it's just a kicker" and they're "a dime a dozen" but are they?

He had noooo such range though. That's a good 20 yards further than he was kicking in his last year here.

Saints may have stunk it up today. But someone tell Vernon Davis that he is no Jimmy Graham and don't try to dunk it through the goalpost again?

Don't forget that a few teams signed him and then cut him loose before he even got to Philly.

EDIT - I just checked and 3 teams cut him before he signed on with Philadelphia - Carolina, Atlanta and Washington.

I sure am too. Should be an excellent game. Might provide commentary here on the board.

Start the game already!!

Broncos get two first downs but then have to punt.

Steelers punt. Denver's ball at their own forty yard line.
