We're not as early with this as you think. We have a Wednesday opening night game so yes less we're 72 hours away from the kickoff of "real football".

The season opens up in New York where the Giants begin defense of their Super Bowl Championship. The last defending champ to lose on opening day was the 1999 Denver Broncos.

People will be real interested to see if it is "business as usual" in New Orleans or if the new "Redskins" lead by RG3 can catch the Saints in a vulnerable position. And the Colts get "lucky" at Chicago or will the Bears be ready to play after last year's injury-riddled season.

49ers and Packers later on as two of the NFC's "finest" meet right away. We have a big playoff rematch Sunday night (Pittsburgh at Denver) and then a double header Monday night (Cincy at Baltimore / SD at Oakland)

All your picks, predictions, in game chat, fantasy chat -- all fair game.

I've posted the odds and usually a sports book posts them without too much movement between then and opening day. Not so this year. There was a "five point swing" in two games. Arizona opened as -2 1/2 and are now +2 1/2 due to Seattle's stellar preseason. Houston opened at -6 vs Miami and are now -11. All four strings on Miami's depth chart thoroughly outplayed in preseason ball.

Dallas at NY Giants (4)
Indy at Chicago (9.5)
Philly (8.5) at Cleveland
Buffalo at NY Jets (3)
Washington at New Orleans (9.5)
New England (6.5) at Tennessee
Jacksonville at Minnesota (4)
Miami at Houston (11)
St Louis at Detroit (8.5)
Atlanta (2.5) at Kansas City
San Fran at Green Bay (5.5)
Carolina (2.5) at Tampa  Bay
Seattle (2.5) at Arizona
Pittsburgh at Denver (1)
Cincy at Baltimore (6)
San Diego (1.5) at Oakland

Hey fuckers, don't forget there's a free pick 'em, no money involved for the winner though.

Week one might answer two of my questions.

1 Is Buffalo a good sleeper pick to make the playoffs?

Buffalo at NY Jets (3) should provide the answer.

2 Does the addition of Peyton Manning make Denver a legitimate contender?

Pittsburgh at Denver (1) might provide an answer.

I think I am going to take Stingmark's shitty Lions as a survivor pick vs chrisstlouis' shitty Rams. I just don't see them losing.

I don't know if we'll have any answers about the Bills as I feel the Jets are a mess and adding Tebow will prove to be nothing but a huge distraction.

Opening day is hard to figure because part of you wants to believe what you saw in the preseason even though your head tells you that it's irrelevant.

If the Jets win 27-10 you won't be able to find one sportswriter on Monday that called the Jets a "mess" nor will you find one that suggested that the Bills would be playoff contenders this season.

Everything I've read indicates the Jets' o line is such a mess that all the fuss over the QBs probably won't matter since both are likely to get killed this season.

I guess that's my beef. Not with you but how the teams are covered in this "ESPN" era. Everything is over-dramatized to make the story sound better. The offensive line is a "mess". The quarterback is going to "get killed". Any team with a significant injury in week one we will hear that their season is "over". And whoever gets their ass kicked the hardest opening day we will hear that team is "dissension racked". A team starting 0-2 will have a "must win or they are done" in week three.
