The only way the replacements go, is when the NFL starts losing money.  But that will not happen, because fans will still tune in, fans will still go to the games, and fans will still buy the merchandise

Until the NFL starts losing money, they aint going to end this lockout

Peter King reported last night that the league and the officials met yesterday for several hours, but that talks broke off late in the afternoon with no planned talks scheduled.  He said that they're still far apart on two key issues, one being the $3M in pension for the refs, which the NFL is balking at.

All of this is on Goodell and the league now.

I doubt it.  I'd need to see some ratings info to make a determination on that though.  I know 60 Minutes does very well for CBS, but I imagine that the longer NFL games are still bringing in more people over a longer period of time, so that can't be a bad thing for the networks.  Some people will turn off the blow-outs, but a game like Broncos-Texans, even though it wasn't very good and dragged, was close enough with the chance of a comeback that I doubt many turned it off.

To be fair, I bet the NFL would drop the pension request, IF the refs would allow them to implement their system of having the next generation of refs ready

Those are the two main issues, and both sides refuse to drop those two issues

And I don't get that mentality by the refs.  How they can think that they don't need a farm system in place for when the older guys get...well, too old.

That slip by Ogletree should be enough to embarrass the NFL, but obviously it wasn't.  Incredible.

That slip was awful.

But yes, the refs, if willing to drop that request, i am sure the NFL say "we keep your pension, but the next group get 401k's like the rest of the league.

It's not that hard to settle this, both sides just need to compromise on their main issues.

Bump.

The Vikings trounced the 49ers. So much for San Fran being the best team in the NFL. Both teams now 2-1.

Dumb ass Alex Smith strikes again.Manningham and Moss are useless on the team with him at QB.

Moss missed two easy ones today. that said, Smith wasn't the real problem today. It was the ineffectual Pass rush. They made Ponder look like Brady/Manning/*insert good QB here*.

A Vikings source explained why the team's offense was able to keep the 49ers off balance

» "We studied them a lot this offseason, and we felt that some of their players felt it was all about getting sacks," the team source said. "Then they open the season with Green Bay and Detroit, who don't do anything but throw it, and they further buy into getting sacks. We decided we were going to run at them, and they didn't like it. After awhile, we feel like we broke them.

Another problem with the refs is that there is no respect shown towards them. Players, coaches, broadcasters -- it's open season.

I think that's actually the biggest problem...by far.

that could have happened with the regular refs, that's just a fluke thing, has nothing to do with them being replacements..

Nor should there be any respect shown to them as referees. They have about as much business throwing (or not throwing one) a flag on an NFL field as you or I do. For all the "Integrity of the Game" shit the NFL spews, they sure don't seem to care about it very much. They're a multi-billion dollar business, give these guys the money they want, which is a drop in the bucket, and be done with it. If they don't, a player is going to get hurt, and hurt really bad. The fact the NFL is even using replacement refs is a disgrace.

60 Minutes gets higher ratings when football leads into it, than it does when it airs at its regular time. After 35 years, their viewers should know it's going to be on late,
