The NBA season is just about here and ready to begin. The Heat are most likely going to repeat while the Lakers are also seen as favorites despite an old roster and shaky bench. What other interesting things do you see happening this year?

The Brooklyn Nets appear to have a good starting five and might challenge the Heat.

PG Deron Williams
SG Joe Johnson
SF Gerald Wallace
PF Kris Humphries
C Brook Lopez

On paper, they are terrific. However the Atlantic division is loaded with The Knicks, Celtics and 76ers.

Former contenders that appear to be fucked in the Eastern Conference are Orlando, Chicago and Atlanta. Orlando lost Howard among others. Derrick Rose is still injured and might not play at all this season. Can't see Atlanta being that good without Joe Johnson. Some other teams will have to win games. Maybe Indiana.

The challengers to the Lakers in the West are OKC, San Antonio and the Los Angeles Clippers.

It's really too early to tell what other teams will be good. With so much player movement the last two seasons, I'll need to see a month of regular season action to give a better evaluations of teams.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are also going to be interesting for a couple of reasons. They have by far the most white players of any NBA team in at least 20 years and have so far in the preseason played all white lineups without Kevin Love. And some basketball sabermetric types think that they have a chance to be real good.

The Bulls looked terrible without Rose in the game I saw them play and if he's out for a long time, Chicago might be a #7 seed at best.

I'm hoping the Knicks win a 1st round series.  If that happens, I'll be happy lol.

Kirk Hinrich is day to day with some sort of injury. If Kirk is unable to play Wednesday night, Nate Robinson will be the starting point guard for Da Bulls. That would be entertaining.

Speaking of the Timberwolves...

http://www.thepostgame.com/blog/dish/201210/are-minnesota-timberwolves-too-white

You knew there would be some idiot black "civil rights" leaders that were going to complain and cry racism over this, even though you just know that if they had their way, not just the whole team, but the whole damn league would be black. The best part is the claim that the team isn't diverse, even though five out of the 10 non-black players were born outside the U.S.

Just for this stupidity I hope that the T-Wolves go a long way this year.

Melo's team will be lucky to win 45 games.

It's a stupid thing to complain about, but it's not a stupid discussion point. If the league is whatever percent black and this team is whatever percent white, it's completely legitimate to say "hmm, that's interesting". Is it a coincidence or is it by design? I don't think it matters. They haven't been winning and the owners need to make money. Bill Watts pushed black wrestlers because he thought it would attract folks and if the Timberwolves want to push white players to attract folks, more power to them. They say it's not what they are doing and no one can really say what their intentions are. I think they have every right to do so and Kevin Love is an elite straight up baller that I would have on my team over most power forwards. He's a lot more skilled than Blake Griffin, but I believe in the long term, Blake's entertainment value and Kevin's lack of being a difference maker in the win-loss column would give Blake the edge to me.

I'll reiterate that I have no problem with the Wolves and believe they have every right to what they want to do with their roster. However, I'm on the record that after what I've been reading on this site about people like me, it should come as no surprise that some of us out there believe that a team may want to boost the 'human' population of their roster so that they market their team more effectively.

BTW - DJP, I'm not disputing your claims of anyone being an idiot or debating your position on the subject. I fully understand where you are coming from.

First night observations. Kylie Irving is tremendous. The Washington Wizards are terrible. The Miami Heat is better than last year with the additions of Ray Allen & Rashard Lewis. The Celtics are still a very good team but not good enough to beat the Heat. Dwight Howard still can't shoot free throws.
