PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia Phillies have agreed to a one-year, $850,000 contract with third baseman Kevin Frandsen.

The Phillies announced the move on Tuesday. Frandsen had been eligible for salary arbitration.

Frandsen hit .338 with 10 doubles, 14 RBI and a .383 on-base percentage in 55 games last season. He also hit .302 in 99 games with Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Frandsen is one guy they should test. He's a .250 hitter at the very best.

Regarding the Jays-Marlins trade, this reminds me of the 1976 trade of Vida Blue and others that Bowie Kuhn voided. What is really different about this versus the shit that Loria just pulled?

Loria should be forced out as an owner.

They were sent shitloads of prospects?

I love how Yankee and Sox fans now have morals, and care about the integrity of the game, when its not them buying up talent.

I would want off that team as well after this went down.

I can't see how any free agent would even consider any deal from Florida unless they got a full no trade clause in the deal and all money upfront

Wasn't the A's sell-off just for cash?

Finley was unable to work out trades so he decided to sell Joe Rudi, Vida Blue, Gene Tenace,Rollie Fingers and Sal Bando. He might have gotten away with it if he asked for prospects too.

Can we at least bitch and moan about how we can't keep up with those damn free spending Blue Jays ???? You know - the same tired crap we've been hearing from Blue Jay fans since 1994.

It's not that the Jays can't out spend other teams. The Jay's owners are loaded.
They REFUSE to spend money on high priced free agents & also have a policy
of not offering contracts longer than for 5 years. Cheap bastards.

There's a lot of difference in the reporting of this - the Grantland guys think he's a genius for playing the system, and nearly everyone else thinks he's a criminal and should never be let near a baseball club ever again.

You've never heard that, EVER. They have, possibly, the richest owners in all professional sports. They're just fucking cheap.

Grantland I bet is playing the opposite of public opinion to see if anyone is paying attention to them

No, I live in Toronto, you know, where they play. Where oh where do you supposedly hear this shit?

TSN, Sportsnet, The Score, etc.

Those aren't fans, they're media outlets.

TSN, who are in direct competition with the owners of the Jays, have POUNDED on them for years for being cheap. A lot of the pounding is legit, some of it is just because its their competition. So you aren't hearing the "whaaa we can't compete financially" from them.

Sportsnet is owned by Rogers, so sometimes some people there will make excuses for them, while others like Mcown will actually call them out for not upping payroll, but they NEVER say they can't financially compete. It would make their company look bad, and you'd lose all credibility saying it when everyone knows Rogers is a multi-billion dollar corporation.

I pay zero attention to the Score, so I won't even attempt to rebut what you say goes on on their channel.

I can only tell you this, and I'm sure others on the board from in and around the GTA will back me up. Nobody here ever pisses and moans about the Jays not being able to compete money wise with the Yanks and Sox. Toronto is the 5th or 6th largest market in North America with rich owners, and has fans who will fill the building if there's a team worth going to see. In the early 90's when Labbatt owned them, they led the league in payroll, and filled the place every night. Jays fans here have only bitched about the owners trying to pretend it was a small market team, so they could get revenue sharing money, because until two days ago, they were cheap fucking cunts.
