Some coaches become legends like Mike Ditka in Chicago and others wind up being branded as hated failures who won't even get nostalgia fondness in twenty years. They'll be hated forever.

Brad Childress had some decent teams in Minnesota, but Vikings fans just couldn't stand the guy, even in 2009 when the team almost made the Super Bowl. He had no personality or charisma, never accepted blame when things went wrong, made some bad draft picks, executed some questionable play calling, and arrogantly believed it was his system that won games above all else rather than players. He's a hated figure among Vikings fans and not even decades down the line will that likely change.

Any other nominations?

Dick Jauron pissed off some Bears and Bills fans.  Dave Wannstedt wasn't very popular either with Bears and Fish.

Childress is a good pick though.  Denny Green didn' thave a ton of fans either though his run with the Vikes wasn't all that bad.

Denny had a personality that really grated on people as well as an ego. Then there was a paternity suit. Some fans, although many won't admit it, couldn't get on board with a black coach. Combine that with the Vikings losing their first playoff game in several seasons when fans expected to go far, then taking a knee in the 1998 NFC Title game to go to OT instead of taking a last shot at a score, and losing 41-0 to the Giants in the 2000 NFC Title game, and Green used up all his capital.

Fans hated the guy by the end although his reign looks good in retrospect. I never had the problem with him that some people did, possibly as a reaction to how over the top some fans got. You'd have thought the team went 3-13 every year he was in charge the way some people go on.

I'll nomnate Matt Millen for Stingy since he isn't around right now. If the rest of the fanbase hates him as much as stingy does, the guy is truly hated.

RichRod at Michigan
Ray Handley with the Giants
Rich Kotite in Philly and Jets
Joe Walton at Jets
Pete Carroll at Jets
Herm Edwards at Jets
Eric Mangini at Jets
Bruce Coslet at Jets (seeing a pattern here?)
Bill Belichick at Jets (this one's deserved)
Jerry Glanville with Falcons
June Jones with Falcons

But the winner of all is Bobby Petrino with the Falcons. That guy would get shit on by a stripper at the Cheetah if he came back here.

Why was Glanville hated?  He was lied at one time by Atlanta fans.

His act wore thin after a few years here. I say that because by the time I got here (October 1995) the fans all had a really bad opinion of him (and he'd been fired IIRC).

I do not think he will forever be hated by Atlanta, though.  He brought some life to that team.  Yeah, he basically wore out his welcome wherever he went, but I do not think he would have fit into the "hated forever" category.

I know he ran the Lions into the ground as President, but who'd he coach?

Good point.

You probably are right about that.

I forgot about Dave Wannestedt in Chicago. He's despised.
