|Danny "Little Red" Lopez
Danny Lopez, nicknamed "Little Red", was the Chief Jay Strongbow of the boxing world in the 1970's. He is actually part Indian, part Mexican and part Irish. He grew up moving from foster home to the next foster home.
He defeated David Kotei in 1976 to win the Featherweight championship.
Lopez became a very popular figure even for some non-boxing fans or newer fans to the sport with much of it based on his unique name and the headdress he wore to the ring.
He was on the undercard of the Ali-Spinks match in 1978 where Spinks defeated Ali for the title. He defended his title against former champ Kotei with a KO in round 6.
On June 17,1979, Lopez's surprisingly most know and popular fight was a match he had against Mike Ayala. It ended with Lopez knocking out Ayala in the 15th Round. It was ranked as one f the best fights of 1979. It was a controversial match because Ayala admitted to being "loaded" during the fight. Allegations were that he was on heroin during the fight.
On February 2, 1980, the popular title reign came to an end for Lopez as he lost to Salvador Sanchez.
