I was the first guy to say the White Sox wouldn't spend the money to resign Jake Peavy.
I'm wrong again.
2 years at $29 million.

I guess they mean to compete instead of rebuild.

I am as shocked as you are.  $14.5 million a year is not that bad.

What was his option amount, wasn't it like $16 million?

I hope they manage to resign Youk myself, along with AJ.  Especially AJ

It was $22 million for next year with a $4 million buyout.

Looks like he enjoys playing in Chicago, to resign for less than he probably would have gotten on the market

You really think he would have gotten more elsewhere? He'll be 32 next yr.Unless there's a bidding war I think he's a tad overpaid. I thought he'll get somewhere in the 12 mil category.

Also at the bottom of the story it added that the White Sox declined the options for Kevin Youkalis and Brett Myers.
They then excercised their option for Gavin Floyd.

The best free agent pitcher is Grienke. The Sox did the right thing by bringing back Peavy.

Some team would probably have gone over board with him out of desperation

I don't mind them signing Peavy, picking up the option on Gavin Floyd was the mistake. 9.5M for a 4th starter at best is a bad move. Every year you only get 2 decent months out of him.

Yeah I thought it was a bad move as well. I thought they let him go then resign cheaper like they did with Peavy
