Semin signs extension with Carolina.

from tsn.ca:

The Carolina Hurricanes have signed forward Alexander Semin to a five-year, $35 million contract extension.

"We're very happy to retain Alex," said Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford. "Alex is an elite player and has been a major contributor to the Hurricanes having a very strong top line."

Semin, 29, is in his eighth NHL season and his first with the Hurricanes, after signing as a free agent on July 26, 2012.

Through 30 games this season, the Russian sniper has eight goals and 22 assists with a plus-18 rating. He is tied for 11th among all NHL skaters in assists this season, and tied for 10th in plus/minus rating.

Drafted by the Washington Capitals in the first round (13th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Semin has 499 career NHL games under his belt with 205 goals, 233 assists and a career plus-83 rating.

LOLz!!! Semin blows! Can anyone tell Me on why there was a lockout again? Me starting to think that Canadians aren't too bright.

:?

How are you figuring that Carolina signing Semin to that contract means Canadians aren't too bright?

Jim Rutherford the GM of Carolina is Canadian.

You'd be better off saying it's because he used to be a goalie...pucks to the head and all.

Kadri with another point, and another solid game yesterday. Tied for 7th overall in points with Staal and Datsyuk.

Boy did it get tiring listening to the TSN crew slurp on Kadri all freaking game. Once they came back from a commercial and Ferraro was simply gushing about Kadri trying ( and failing ) to knock Chara off the puck.....which had happened about 10 minutes earlier.

Was it as bad as Pierre blowing Crosby on-air every 10 seconds?

Nothing's as bad as listening to Pierre Mcguire talk about anything.

Sounds like Iginla will be a Boston Bruin pretty soon. Calgary is sitting Iginla tonight versus Colorado and Boston is sitting out D Matt Bartkowski versus Montreal after signing Bartkowski to a new contract yesterday. Apparently one of Boston's top prospects Alexander Khokhlachev ( 2nd round pick in 2010 ) was pulled from his AHL game tonight. Here's my guess - Bartkowski, Khokhlachev, Jordan Caron and a 2nd round pick goes to Clagary for Iginla.

Sounds like a deal has been done - Iginla to Boston for D Matt Bartkowski, C/LW Alexander Khokhlachev and a 2013 1st round pick. I like the deal although losing Koko kind of sucks since he was thought to be a Rick Middleton type of player. And since Iginla is a UFA after this season I would have preferred if Calgary got a 2nd round pick if Iginla signs somewhere else for next year which would be upgraded to a 1st round pick if Iginla resigns with Boston. Gotta admit it though - he looks pretty good in a Bruins uniform:

Still no conformation.  If deal goes through, it will be nice to have him out of the conference, huge Oiler killer.

Careful now - if he leaves and Edmonton wins a few more games then you guys might not keep getting all those high draft picks.

When he does leave I really hope Iginla doesn't do a " Cryin' Ryan " type of Press Conference:

The Oilers are 3 points out of a playoff spot.......IN MARCH!  It's been so long since meaningful hockey has been played this late in the season.  Who am I kidding.  :?

I don't know if you watched the Boston vs Montreal game but the guys on TSN were saying that Boston is apparently trying to get Whitney from Edmonton. Most Bruins fans are totally against him joining the Bruins and it seems that most of the people that are in favour of it only like it because he's from Boston. I know he was recently benched for a few games but do you think Whitney's got anything left or will this be Kaberle Part Deux ????

He plays good for stretches, then sucks and is benched, he's better than Seidenberg though.

There is now crazy rumour coming from Hockey Buzz ( I have no idea if these guys are reputable or not ) and if this is how Iginla ends up in Boston I will not be quite so happy.

- Boston trades LW Milan Lucic and a prospect to Edmonton for D Ryan Whitney, LW/RW Magnus Paajarvi, C Anton Lander and Edmonton's 2013 1st round pick.

- Boston then trades Paajarvi, D Matt Bartkowski and Boston's 2013 1st round pick to Calgary for RW Jarome Iginla.

It's probably total bullsh*t and I really hope it is.

Hockey Buzz is not credible.  That said, Lucic is what Edmonton needs, I'd do that deal in an instant.

Aaron Ward of TSN says it is done.  Hefty price to pay if he doesn't re-sign.
