Ha.

Awesome.

And there's likely next to no chance that they'll be able to work out a deal to re-sign Wallace.

Harrison hasn't been the same since he had the back injury, and Wallace did nothing to help his cause last season with constant drops and sulking.

I agree.

Wallace has the burners, but he has not shown the hands or the consistency to be anything other than a one-trick pony with the deep threat.  Routine catches are an adventure for him.

Harrison may have some left in the tank, but what some do not seem to realize is that this guy is getting old and he has had a couple of serious injuries in the past couple of years.  I think he could still apply pressure for a pass rush, but he had slowed down considerably in coverage.

If another team is willing to throw huge money at Wallace and impact their cap, god bless them.   I am an advocate with the infusion of new and younger blood so Harrison leaving would be something I support.

Eagles add Ed Wang
Posted by Mike Florio on February 15, 2013, 4:03 PM EST

The Eagles are stockpiling former fifth-round draft picks.

Earlier this week, it was former Oregon quarterback Dennis Dixon, a fifth-round pick of the Steelers in 2008.  Now, the Eagles have announced the addition of offensive lineman Ed Wang, a fifth-round pick of the Bills in 2010.

Wang, the first Chinese-American player ever drafted by an NFL team, played in six games as a rookie, and then he spent all of 2011 on injured reserve. Wang signed with the Raiders during the 2012 offseason, but he later was cut.

He could eventually be cut by the Eagles.  In the offseason, teams may now have 90 players.  By September, that number drops to 53.

hey wang, no offense

I could see the Eagles picking up someone like Wallace. They have the cap room. He has all the skills. Maybe a change of scenery. The Eagles need more receivers like him. I really don't think Riley Cooper is going to fit into Kelly's system and our #1 and #2 are injury prone.

Wallace does not have all the skills, Ultimark.   Terrible route-runner and maybe not the brightest bulb.   He is also not a guy that is going to go over the middle.  He will go down before taking a hit.  I think his problems are more with concentration.  His drops on 10-15 yard passes is ridiculous.

Since you have seen a lot more of him than me, I will take your word for it. I bet we sign him anyway. That would be like the Eagles.

Looks like Alex Smith has been traded. Niners waiting until March 12th to announce.

Yep, per Jay Glazer it was with the Chiefs who have made a big commitment to Smith.  Details on what the trade was aren't known yet.

More on the Alex Smith Trade.

Report: Chiefs giving up a 2013 second and change for Alex Smith
Posted by Darin Gantt on February 27, 2013, 12:22 PM EST

The Chiefs apparently have their quarterback now, but they paid a handsome price for him.

According to Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News, the 49ers will get a second-round pick this year and “a similar pick in the 2014 draft” in exchange for quarterback Alex Smith.

That’s a haul for the 49ers, who have more draft picks than will ever make their roster this year (which could put them in prime position to make a run at disgruntled Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis).

Paying that kind of price also speaks to the Chiefs figuring out a deal to extend Smith, since that kind of price for two years seems excessive.

Niners are in position to dominate the draft, and the NFL
Posted by Mike Florio on February 27, 2013, 1:08 PM EST

Three years ago, former Eagles coach Andy Reid fleeced the Redskins for a second-round pick for quarterback Donovan McNabb.  Now, it looks like Reid could be the fleecee.

Regardless of whether Alex Smith works out better for the Chiefs than McNabb did for the Redskins, the Niners have landed a high second-round pick this year and a conditional selection in 2014 for a guy who, barring injury to Colin Kaepernick, was going to be sitting on the bench.

The selection gives the 49ers a whopping 15 picks in 2013, allowing them to dominate the draft, Patriots style.  If, for example, there’s a team that wants to move up to the 34th overall pick and get the highest remaining quarterback on the board, the Niners could stockpile even more selections — maybe even a first-round selection in 2014.

The arsenal of picks also allows the 49ers to, whether now or in the future, pile up more and more players who, if those picks are used wisely, can position the 49ers to contend for multiple championships.

At a time when the defending champs are staring down the kind of turnover that could make it hard to repeat, the Niners are better suited than any Super Bowl loser in years to get back to the big game and win it.

If that happens, it’ll be the first time a team lost the Super Bowl and then return to win the game since the 1972 Dolphins.

James "Deebo" Harrison released by the Stillers.

Where does he end up?

Cleveland?   Indianapolis?

That guy was stellar this season. Releasing Urlacher is likely the best move they can make next to it, other than getting Peppers to restructure. Which, of course, will not happen.

Busy day today...besides the Harvin to Seashawks trade, the 49ers have traded a sixth round pick to the Ravens for Anquan Boldin.
