KITTANNING, Pa. -- Mitch Frerotte, an offensive lineman who played in three Super Bowls for the Buffalo Bills, has died. He was 43.

He died unexpectedly at home and a cause was not immediately available. His death was confirmed by the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home in Frerotte's hometown of Kittanning.

Frerotte played four years, including the Bills' Super Bowl seasons of 1990-92, mostly as a reserve and on special teams.

Frerotte played for Penn State from 1983-87 before joining Buffalo. He sustained a career-ending neck injury after joining the Seattle Seahawks Seattle Seahawks for training camp in 1993.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

He was my favorite backup offensive guard who could catch 1-yard TD passes. Not to be confused with Butch Rolle, my favorite tight end who could catch 1-yard TD passes.

I remember that he wanted to be a wrestler after he finished playing. Never happened due to the neck injury.

Wasn't he known as the Pit Bull or something like that?  And, didn't he host a radio show in Buffalo?

We used to get bits and pieces about him in the Pittsburgh paper due to him being from Western PA.

Yeah, he wanted to be the Pit Bull when he became a wrestler. This of course was before ECW and the Pitbulls. I don't remember a radio show, maybe Gone Fishing or foolio does. I do remember that he designed his eye black in such a way to look like he was in the Road Warriors or something.

By the way, he caught a TD pass against the Steelers in the '92 playoffs

Yep, that is why I remember him so much!  You did not have to bring that up!  Leading up to the game, the Burgh media played it how great it is that a local guy gets to play against the Steelers.  Nobody expected Mitch to catch a TD pass!
