Here we go, again.

Will the Battlin' Bucs flounder and not make it anywhere near .500 this season?

Will they play a great first half of baseball and then collapse like the last two seasons?

And away we go!

The Division is up for grabs so the Pirates have a chance to be above .500.

Current standings

Cardinals 10-7
Reds 10-8
Pirates 9-8
Brewers 8-8
Cubs 5-11

I want to say yes badly. I really thought they had it in the bag last year then the late swoon came. So, well....I don't know.

The pitching is good enough for them to have a winning season, it's the offense that worries me. The bats were snoozing the first week of the season, but they seem to have been coming alive so who knows.

I think the offense is better but not sold on pitching.  Burnett is old, McDonald is inconsistent, Wandy is streaky and never been great or even very good for a whole season, Locke is not starting very many other places and Sanchez shouldn't even be in the minor leagues let alone the majors.  When Cole comes up that makes them better but is that enough?  Plus Cutch and Alvarez need to start to be more consistent at the plate as well

The Bucs take 2 out of 3 from the Cardinals.  5 games over .500 and now in first place.

It isn't for The Bucs.   We are only two months away from the usual collapse!

21-16 so far the real surprise was they got 1 good game out of Nelson Lirano, I was expecting another Jonthan Sanchez from him.  Starling Marte is tturning out to be the best hitter on the team, only took Pedro Alvarez 41 games to climb above the Mendoza line

Not bad for a 49 year-old :)

Bucs 11 games over 500 tied for 2nd on May 24
Central
St. Louis Cardinals 30 16
Pittsburgh Pirates 29 18
Cincinnati Reds 29 18
Milwaukee Brewers 18 27
Chicago Cubs 18 28

McCutcheon starting to come to life Marte holding steady, Alvarez has streaks of power but can't stay above the Mendoza line, Snider, Martin and Jones contribute but its been the pitching, while ace AJ Burnett can't buy a win lately he continues to pitch well, Liriano has been better than ever, Wandy is pitching better than ever, Locke has remained consistent, bullpen is lights out with Melancon and Grilli unhittable
