We just saw the Spurs and the Bruins experience losses about as bad as you can experience just in the past week. Give me one that you remember that STILL HURTS.

Easy choice for me. 1999 national title game, basketball. Duke vs Uconn. That Duke team was easily top 5 greatest teams ever, only one loss all season and that was by a layup at the buzzer early in the season. They blew out everyone by double digits all season, just smoked everyone. Lossing in the championship game hurt, hurt BAD. STILL bothers me. The only thing that has eased it a little is winning the 2010 championship, that team wasn't supposed to get anywhere near a championship, so that kind of makes up for 1999, as far as championships go. Losing in 99 ruined the legacy of that Duke team, they win that title they go down as the greatest Duke team ever and one of the best ever period.

Put it this way, that loss hurt me so bad that I took the following day off from work it hurt me that bad.

I barely watched college football last year because of the travesty that was the previous season's national title game. That one still hurts so bad. That's all I want to say about that. The Saints losing to the niners around the same time still sticks in my craw as well. Then bounty gate. Those things, which all occurred over a short period, have sapped my passion for the game at this time.

And I 'm still processing what went down in the last couple of games in the NBA finals. My mind is rejecting it.

I support Birmingham City.  Where the heck do I start?  Losing 3-0 at the filth in 1980 after being goalless until 15 minutes to go - and in a sixty second period we have a goal wrongly disallowed and they have one given?  2001 League Cup final where we got royally fucked by a protectionist refereeing decision?  1997 FA Cup fifth round against Wrexham - WREXHAM!!!! - where a stupid sending-off cost us a place in the quarter final, and, given the way the draw went, possibly a place in the final?  2010 FA Cup quarter final where two asinine refereeing decisions cost us a place in the semi?  3-2 at home to the Albion in a game where we pissed on them all match and they scored with the only 3 shots they had?  2-1 at Spurs on the last day of the 2011 season that got us relegated by the narrowest of margins - and drove the club into near-bankruptcy?  5-0 at Walsall (enough said)?  7-0 to Liverpool in the Cup quarter final - at home - our record home defeat (and I stayed until the end)?

I could go on...

I'm from Boston.  Take your pick.

Still have to go with '86 Game 6 World Series as my #1.  2008 Patsies Super Bowl was pretty devestating as well.  So was the 2012 Super Bowl.  Aaron Boone, 2003.  Bucky Dent, 1978.  Celts snatching defeat from the jaws of victory from the Lakers in Game 7 a couple years ago. Brutal.

Let's put it this way...as bad as the Bruins loss was, it might not even register in my Top 10.

Hawks in Game 1 of the 1992 Stanley Cup final against the Penguins. hawks had IIRC a 4-2 lead before the Pens came back late (Hawks had really earned the lead as I recall, outplaying the Pens in game 1 by a fair bit).

Then jaromir Jagr scored the goal really late where he went through every hawk on the ice and then Eddie Belfour, and the Penguins won the game. It was on eo fthose things where even though it was only game 1, you knew right there and then that the series was over and the Pens were taking the Cup, which they did in four straight.

At that point, the hawks hadn't been to a final that I could remember and had never been able to get past Edmonton or Calgary to reach the Finals for a full decade. Even then I knew that team was peaking and might not get back right away. Knowing that made that loss really, really hard to take, especially when it was later thought about in the context of how bad the team got in the 2000's and the playoffs seemed a million miles away.

Game 7, 2001 World Series was by far the worst.

Game 5, 1995 Division Series vs. Seattle also still stings.

It has to be the 2004 ALCS.

2001 World Series is up there too, but at least we didn't lose to the fucking Red Sox.

Come to think of it, those two losses are probably why I hate Curt Shilling so fucking much.

Yeah, but you got payback on that 94 AFC title game, because the Colts surely snatched defeat from the jaws of victory (to steal the line dfg just dropped) in th95 game.

Last years superbowl. Niners game to win.
2002 World Series. Game 6. Dusty Baker fucked that up.

1977 NBA finals, game 6.  Sixers have last possession with something like 6 seconds left and a chance to win.  DrJ has almost single-handedly kept them in the game and has 40-something.  Out of bounds sideline on the Sixers offensive end.  Coach Gene Shue calls a play for George McGuinness, who has shit the bed for three straight games and has been totally outplayed by Maurice Lucas.  Sixer put the ball in play, get George open for a 12 footer, which he predictably bricks and the series goes to the Blazers.   Dammit...

Other than that the '69 Cubs and any number of chokes by the Chargers would be my offering.
