If only Jerry Sandusky coached these kids, we could've just negated everyone's wins in one fell swoop.  It also would've taught the kids a valuable lesson in what happens to liars.  Sometimes your pants wind up around your ankles before they catch on fire.

In the olden days it used to be called "gamesmanship"

edit... just saw that srossi used that term in the hockey and baketball "cheating" thread

The mayor of the city and the governor of the state had tons of photo ops with them. They also went to the White House to meet President Obama. The Cubs and the White Sox gave them days at their ballparks.
This was not your typical Little League story here in Chicago. It was front page for days. There were viewing parties in various parts of the city.

Thousands of tee shirts went on sale and sold out during the Series.

I have no idea where this story is going to wind up.

You just knew. Where's Al ?

Little League Baseball vacated all of Chicago-area Jackie Robinson West’s wins from the 2014 Little League World Series tournament on Wednesday.

After investigating allegations that several players on JRW do not reside within the team’s district borders, LLB stripped the team of both it’s Great Lakes Regional and U.S. national

Despite the open and shut nature of the case, several of the team’s supporters — including Jesse Jackson and Michael Pfleger — stated at a Wednesday press conference that JRW’s punishment had nothing to do with any possible recruiting infractions and was born purely through…

RACISM!

According to Rev. Jackson, “this decision is untimely and inappropriate at this time. It should not take six months after a team has played a championship game to determine eligibility to play the game in the first place… Is this about boundaries or race?”

Rev. Pfleger’s comments expressed the same core message: “When you’re going over to voter registration and going to birth certificates and doing all this time of hunting and a witch hunt that’s been going on for the last number of months, I can’t help but wonder the question if the same thing would have been done with another team from another place, another race.”

While the team’s supporters made ample references to skin color, neither the Reverends nor the players’ parents mentioned Darold Butler, the team’s manager, or Michael Kelly, the league’s district administrator; both have been identified as the scandal’s masterminds and have been indefinitely suspended from all Little League activity.

These little digs at the Patriots are starting to make me think you are jealous of them, since the team you support hasn't won in 45 or so years:)

Pittsburgh Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen was among those who took notice when Jackie Robinson West, a Little League team based in Illinois, was stripped this week of its 2014 United States championship for recruiting violations.

After the league handed down its controversial decision, McCutchen opined on The Players' Tribune that the incident helped illustrate how income inequality in the United States increasingly prevents kids from low-income families from reaching their baseball dreams.

Raised in a household of modest means, McCutchen refused to vilify Jackie Robinson West for recruiting players from "outside the geographical area", and instead empathized with how difficult it is for certain children to receive the exposure necessary to succeed in professional baseball.

Baseball used to be the sport where all you needed was a stick and a ball. It used to be a way out for poor kids. Now it’s a sport that increasingly freezes out kids whose parents don’t have the income to finance the travel baseball circuit.

... nobody outside of (my hometown) knew who I was, even when I was 12 years old, the same age as those kids playing in the Little League World Series. When you’re a kid from a low-income family who has talent, how do you get recognized? Now, you have to pay thousands of dollars for the chance to be noticed in showcase tournaments in big cities.

For all the backlash around the Jackie Robinson West team “cheating,” most people are ignoring the truth of how these 12-year-old kids make it out of their towns and onto a national stage.

He's right, but for the wrong reason.  Surely someone should have been checking eligibility before they even played a match.  Over here, for the development teams, every player has to be properly registered with birth certificates &c to confirm they are toe correct age.

As it is, the team they beat in the first round has as legitimate a gripe as the team that lost the final.  Who's to say that the first-round losers weren't the best pukka side in the tournament?

Plus had they entered a bona fide side with players from the same neighbourhood they may have won.

This makes no sense.  Is there a "did so" missing before the semicolon?
