The Flyers received Schenn & Simmonds for Richards. Deal straight up for Schenn would be great, but getting Simmonds on top of it. Jeff Carter was also in the discussion of a problem team mate which lead to him being traded at the same time. It was no secret they were both party boys and missing practices and team meetings. Some how Carter got his act together and Richards couldn't.

Carter supposedly slept with Scott Hartnell's wife at the time (both denied it).

Great job by Julien tonight making sure the 4th line didn't miss their regular shift with about 4 minutes left and trailing by 2 goals. He's definitely going to be my 10 point pick in the S & W 2016 Fired Coaches, Managers and GMs Pool.

This behavior is more common with NHL players than cocaine use.

Phil Kessel's got his wings.
The sniper did what he does best Saturday night: skated down the right wing off the rush and snapped a bullet past Arizona Coyotes goalie Mike Smith, blocker side, from the top of the circle. It was his first goal of the season and first as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The goal was also the Penguins' first of the season, after the club was shut out in its opening game.
The Penguins break their goalless sequence to start the season (85:17). The 03-04 team still holds the franchise mark (90:14).

Different coach, same awful start.

The Dave Hakstol era in Philadelphia has begun much like the previous regime's, with the Flyers failing to win either of their first two games for the fourth season in a row Saturday night.

But after a 7-1 thrashing from the Florida Panthers, the situation appears more dire as the Flyers apparently held a players-only meeting after the humiliating loss.

It doesn't have the makings of a mutiny, and in fact, it could be the opposite - perhaps a rallying point.

But it certainly isn't ideal.

Philadelphia will get another crack at the Panthers on Monday night.

from csnne.com:

Matt Irwin, who has struggled badly badly out of the gate, was placed on waivers. Irwin was a minus-2 in the loss to Montreal, and is a minus-5 on the season while appearing to be a big liability for a defense corps that needs all the help it can get.

Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand suffered a concussion in Saturday night's loss to the Montreal Canadiens, according to head coach Claude Julien.

Marchand left the game after receiving an elbow from Canadiens forward Dale Weise in the Bruins' eventual 4-2 loss.

Julien said there is no timetable for Marchand's return.

Prior to the Ottawa Senators' home opener against the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday, team owner Eugene Melnyk walked onto the ice with his daughters and thanked the fans for their support after his liver transplant in May.

My daughters on the ice thanking everyone for helping me out. Best fans in the world! #BeADonor pic.twitter.com/hGOSJ9eZfA

— Eugene Melnyk (@MelnykEugene) October 11, 2015
Following a warm welcome from the Canadian Tire Centre crowd, Senators captain Erik Karlsson and Canadiens captain Max Pacioretty skated to the red carpet to shake the owner's hand.

After the team announced Melnyk was in urgent need of a liver transplant in May, hundreds applied. The 56-year-old found a match, and on May 19 he underwent the procedure.

Since Melnyk purchased the Senators and their home arena (then the Corel Centre) out of bankruptcy in 2003, the team has reached the postseason in eight of 11 seasons.

And instead of calling up somebody from Providence ( there is a kid down there has scored 5 goals in their first 2 games ) Claude Julien is going to move Chris Kelly ( a player with virtually no offense left in his game ) up to the 3rd line to replace Connolly who is taking Marchand's spot on the Bergeron line. Simply inexcusable Coaching strategy for a team that is starved for offense and I'm now firmly in the " Julien needs to go " camp.

Plenty of Shouting for Vatrano to be called up.

That's his name - Frank Vatrano. He is small ( 5-10 and 216 lbs ) but Boston needs to replace Marchand's offense with somebody who actually has an offensive game. After spending all summer telling the Boston media that he would be able to adjust his coaching style to allow for a more offensive game it's taken Julien 2 games to fall back into his old habits. Max Talbot gets put on waivers last week yet still gets inserted into the lineup because Julien wasn't satisfied with the game that Joonas Kemppainen ( his first in the NHL ) had on opening night. And now he loses Marchand and moves Kelly up instead of giving some kid down in Providence a chance. I don't think Julien will make it to Christmas and I'm perfectly OK with that.

Still couldn't believe the Bruins were stupid enough to trade Hamilton for picks only.
