Well, the preliminaries are basically over and Sunday is the Daytona 500, so I figured may as well start a thread, and just for shizznits and giggles see if anybody wants to make any predictions on what to expect.

Keep in mind that NASCAR has made 2 major rules changes, one being that they are going to the lesser downforce aero package on all tracks except for Daytona and Talledega, the second one being that the 3 attempts at a green, white, checkers has been eliminated due to the Harvick fiasco at Talledega last year, now they have an "overtime line" after 1/2 lap is completed, if that happens w/o a caution, the next flag ends the race, yellow or checkers.

I'll make 3 predictions, 1 I am 100% sure of, 1 I have no idea of, and 1 I am hoping to see and think has a goof chance of happening.

1- I am sure of: Danica Patrick wont win a race (again), won't make the chase (again), and will keep a more deserving male driver from a ride (again)
2-I have no idea how Daytona 500 will go, but my best guess is:Kurt Busch will win the Daytona 500 after finishing 2nd in the dang thing 3 times.

3-Hope it happens , has a good chance of happening: my favorite driver, Kyle Busch wins his second championship, 2 in a row.

Anyways, just for fun if anybody feels like it chime in on your predicitions, it might be fun to look back at the end of the year and see how smart (or stupid) we were.

I don't follow real closely, but I always enjoy the Daytona 500 and am going to try to follow throughout the entire season. I don't know enough to make any predictions, but am looking forward to tomorrow's race.

1) Dale Jr will win the Daytona 500. His car has been strong all week.
2) Chase Elliott will make the Chase and will win Rookie of the Year
3) Kevin Harvick will win the championship

1. Junior will win the 500
2. Other than the 4 plate races and 2 road course races, much like last season, I won't watch or follow it much.

The joke that they have turned the championship into has really soured me on Nascar the last 2 seasons, last year I really barely follwed it other than the 6 races I just mentioned, and this year will probably be more of the same. Grew up a hardcore Nascar fan, can remember being 7 years old and watching the first live broadcast of the Daytona 500, I grew up and live in the middle of Nascar country, have friends that work for Nascar, and I just don't care anymore.

What a finish!!!! Not a guy I wanted to win, but awesome nonetheless.

This year with this being Ryan Blaney's official rookie season I've picked him in the Wood Brother's #21 as my number one favorite driver.

Btw, I thought Dale jr, or Hamlin were going to win it...

Get that POS that was the "Car of Tomorrow" off your post Carpetbeggar!! The worst car in Nascar history, that godawful splitter, that horrible wing on the back, take that down, let's never let that POS car see human eyes again!

here is Blaney's #21 for this year:

For like 10 races that season I thought those wings were cool on the cars, now when I see a COT with that wing I about puke...god what a disaster, those cars almost ruined Nascar, course, they're what got the manufacturers to go to Nascar and say "Make them look like out production cars again or we're out" so something good came of it..

Big news today, next season Stewart/Haas is moving to Ford, sharing technology with Roush-Fenway...talk about a hit to Hendrick..now basically puts Ford even with Chevy in the Nascar charters...

This is a big surprise to me given that Tony Stewart has always professed loyalty to Chevrolet and it is believed that Joe Gibbs Racing moving to Toyota was a big reason for Stewart leaving JGR to start Stewart Haas Racing. I think that Stewart also has dirt racing team(s) that are currently sponsored / supported by Chevrolet so how would the move to Ford affect them? Stewart and Harvick often filled in as drivers for JR Motorsports in the Xfinity series. Will the move to Ford prevent them from driving for JR Motorsports in the future? Since this will be Stewart's last year as a driver in NASCAR, it makes me wonder if he will sell his stake in SHR.

Even though Hendrick Motorsports has been the #1 team for Chevrolet, Stewart Haas Racing has won the most recent championships for Chevrolet (Stewart, Harvick). Makes you wonder what prompted the change...

1) Did Ford throw a TON of money to SHR to have them join their team?
2) Haas is starting an F1 team that will be using Ford engines. Maybe this was a "package deal" to get Ford support for both NASCAR/F1? It makes me wonder since other owners use different manufacturers in different series (Ganassi uses Ford for Rolex sports car but Chevrolet for NASCAR. Penske uses Chevrolet for IndyCar but Ford for NASCAR)
3) Will SHR be moved to the top of the Ford food chain? If so, how will Penske like being demoted to #2?

My Roush insider told me he thinks this could fuck them in the end, Ford is saying the right things right now and saying that Roush, Penske and Stewart/Haas will all be treated equally but he thinks when it comes time after a year to write the checks they could get moved to a tier 2 program with Ford which could really kill them..

That said, I'm hearing that Stewart/Haas had problems with Hendrick chasis and think they are way behind and Hendrick told them basically to shut up and take what they give them and well, they said fuck you and left..

You can still do it, you just won't get credit for qualifying points.

Hell, I lost qualifying points last week when NASCAR screwed Kyle, I think I'll just let things stand.

I do have a question though: do we get a mid season reset, or do we only get 9 starts per driver for the whole season?
