ESPN is fishing for Peyton Manning, but I say they end up with Rex Ryan

Rex Ryan in my opinion would work better on Sundays because he's so opinionated. But really, he's the best fit. He can talk with the best of them and really has a good grip on what's going on down on the field. I think he could be as good as Madden if he wanted to dedicate himself to it, and he could have a 20+ year run on broadcasts.

Any chance they move Tony Romo there? His enthusiasm is kind of fun and though he expresses it differently he obviously knows the game.

(No idea who he's under contract with or how that would work)

Ryan is a good choice too, for sure.

Rex Ryan was so bad on that game he did, but that whole telecast was a disaster. I don't watch pregames since they're useless, so I dunno if he got any better.

Regarding Tony Romo, he is contracted to CBS for the next few seasons. He had an outstanding rookie season in the booth and seems like the spiritual heir to John Madden in many ways. He'd be perfect for Monday Night Football, but that ship has sailed. As for who it will be, ESPN will rightly make a move for Peyton Manning who seems on the surface like a good fit. Supposedly Eli Manning has been discussed, perhaps even in a three man booth with Sean McDonough and Peyton. Rex Ryan has to be in the mix. Don't count out Tim Tebow either. I think that a double dose of Mannings is unlikely. Whichever of these guys gets the call, I would bet a second veteran analyst is in the booth too, such as how Ron Jaworski was alongside Jon Gruden for a few seasons. Despite how Romo did with no experience after getting parachuted into the main analyst spot on CBS, it is a hard jump and there is a good reason why most NFL play by play guys and analysts start off doing regional games on Sundays. If you need seasoning, calling Browns-Bengals in the early afternoon to a few markets is the place rather than a quasi-national late afternoon feature game or a prime time game.

Manning wants to own a team (probably the Titans whenever Bud Adams' daughter decides to sell). I don't see him doing TV work.

ESPN could pay someone a fraction of what they were giving Gruden, and have an analyst who actually says something.
