Just decided to change his mind and not take the Colts job and remain the offensive coordinator  of the Patriots. Colts must be pissed.

Colts are a minor league team without Luck. I can see why he backed out if there's no guarantee he'll be back.

Good for him. If you aren’t sure, don’t do it. Life’s too short.

Clearly, a promise has been made that he will be the next head coach of the Pats when BB steps down which could be as soon as a year from now. It has to be since he was already a failure in Denver and now with the Colts thing who else would risk hiring him?

I think the Colts dodged a bullet.

If that's true it's interesting because I would think following Belichick in New England is as lousy a gig as you could want. Brady will be out or on his way out, Bill gone, and that legacy...I wouldn't want to be next after Bill.

With the Colts even if he failed it's a gig that already has issues so there are less expectations coming in.

Being the OC in New England isn't a bad gig either obviously.

This isn't a case of Josh McDaniels accepting the job on a Friday night and calling back Saturday afternoon to back out. He's been the head coach elect for the Colts for a month, has been hiring assistants, and has interacted with the Colts organization about long term planning. I understand about Andrew Luck, but this was still a bad way to handle things on McDaniels' part.

I hate the Patriots, but I honestly don't feel bad for Indy right now. For them to trust anybody from NE after Deflategate, they are just begging to be turned on.

Yep. Already reports/opinions from NFL folks he's basically fucked himself out of any future HC jobs, hope it's worth it to him.

I would imagine promises were made. But many times, coaches in waiting take off while waiting anyway.

McDaniels had offered the Colts OC job to Brian Daboll, who turned him down and took the Bills job. Looks like going to Buffalo worked out for once.

Belichick did this with the Jets.
