It seems like every year the prime time coverage on NBC gets worse. I was happy to hear that Bob Costas would be retiring, but they still fill the limited prime time coverage with stupid political stories and feel good stories instead of showing the actual events. They will show the entire figure skating competition from start to finish and then show 2 minute snippets of 1 or 2 of the other events. My wife makes fun of me because I scream at the TV, "show me the god damn events!" -- Rant over.

I was in the States in summer 2016 overlapping with the Olympics. Your coverage was atrocious. Over here we have pretty much everything covered. Using the red button on telly in those Games there were nine different sports going on live simultaneously. Lots of highlights packages and online content. In the States almost the only thing I saw were the gaolbait gymnasts - because interviews with them were more important than things like the rowing finals or the triathlon or cycling or whatever.

I am surprised I even opened a thread about the olympics.

Actually just watched the on demand version of the snowboarding finals, and it was pretty damn awesome. 17 year old kid from Colorado won the gold. Some drama at the end, and everyone else crashed and this kid nailed his last three jumps. Not bad for a half hour viewing.

A little bit. Like the snowboarding. The skating is awful. Lasted 2 minutes with that. All in about an hour so far.

I just can't get into a "sport" that relies on judges to determine winners and losers. So, ice skating, gymnastics, diving, and pretty much all of "Extreme" sports are non-starters for me.

I have trouble as well with this as well. Last night during the men's skating, the American skater made it through his routine and did not fall. The Russian guy fell 2 times and was still 10 points ahead of the American. The Russian tried harder jumps, but fell on both attempts so he got more points for trying and failing a harder jump.

But if I did, at least you can point to the fact that without exception each and every fight can be decided in the ring and not at the scorer's table.

The attraction to those combat sports is that a knockout/conclusive finish is always possible in every bout, but yes boxing in particular is guilty of figure-skating-esque decisions once those bouts get to the judges.

Canada in 2nd place so far with 10 medals. Trying to watch coverage down here is horrible. Either you watch shit live at 2 am or it's all tape delayed. Listening to the announcers while watching Speed Skating this morning was quite amusing. THe American guy had no chance, but listening to them you'd think that being 3 seconds off the lead was the same as losing the race by 0.00001th of a second.

I play this silly game with both NBC and CBC while watching a "live" event. Toggling back and forth- my guess is that the US coverage is the one with the delay. They should have delayed the women's snowboarding event until the winds died down, but that's just me being nitpicky.

Shaun White was ridiculously entertaining last night. I have to laugh how this was literally the first time my wife and I have EVER watched snowboarding and ten minutes in we think we're judging experts. "Yeah, the Japanese kid didn't hold on to the correct part of his board" "Oh, that Canadian was 60 degrees short on his 1440". Still we had a great time and this White kid (I don't approve of his racist name) seemed like a real good sportsman.

I did the same with my wife during the snowboarding. I did like that. The skiing was OK. I will never watch another second of figure skating for as long as I live. The men's hockey is what I am waiting for. The coverage by NBC is just awful. They own so many stations and they pretty much have wasted the opportunity to be creative. Well, that's not true I guess. Other countries know how to do it. We would just be catching up.
