Former Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum has agreed to a deal with theTexas Rangers, a source confirmed to ESPN.
The 33-year-old right-hander last pitched in 2016, going 2-6 with a 9.16 ERA in nine starts with the Los Angeles Angels.

He won Cy Youngs in 2008 and 2009, made four All-Star teams by age 27 and was a part of three World Series championships with the San Francisco Giants. But his velocity and effectiveness gradually diminished, in large part because of a series of injuries.
He threw no-hitters against the San Diego Padres in 2013 and 2014 but logged a mere 15 starts for San Francisco in 2015. The Angels signed Lincecum to a $2.5 million contract the following May, only to designate him for assignment three months later.
Nicknamed "The Freak," the 5-foot-11 Lincecum pitched at a scant 170 pounds with the Giants, but he appeared on social media this winter sporting a more muscular frame.

Texas must be hard up for pitching. Off hand I can't even name a pitcher on their team.

Isn't Cole Hamels still there?  I think he's coming off of an injury-plagued season though.

The talk is that Lincecum is going to close for the Rangers, not start. They feel at this stage of his career and the fact that his greatest success of this decade was probably the month the Giants put him in the pen during their last big run means they can maybe catch lightning in a bottle. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he thrives.

It is a low risk move for the Rangers. One the can walk from pretty easily if things don't work out.

Arrieta might have to sign a one year deal.

Has his pitching gone that downhill that only gets a one year deal?

Other than Hamels, no one of note.

I think the main reason he hasn't got a multi year deal is that most teams are saving up for next year's free agent market.Guys like Bryce Harper, Clayton Kershaw, Manny Machado, Josh Donaldson, McCutchen
and others will be AVL. It will likely be the greatest free agent class ever.
If you think the players are over paid now, wait til you see what Harper signs for.

Can't believe Lincecum is only 33.

The Phils are waiting for next year. Even with Santana, they have one of the smallest payrolls in baseball and are not a small market team. This is the year they want to find out which young guys will stick. Next offseason they go big. I expect them to sign Harper and a top flight starter.

Really? You don't think Harper's nailed on to go to the Yankees or maybe the Dodgers? I'd love to see him in a Phillies uniform but I just don't think it's possible. Still, with the war chest they're sitting on, they should be able to match dollar figures with anyone in baseball.
