Anybody remember Kenny Landreaux?

Landreaux played for the Angels, the Twins and the Dodgers.

Kenny had a 31-game hitting streak in 1980.  He was traded to the Dodgers in 1981 and was viewed as they player who could put the Dodgers over the top.

Had some good stats, not great stats. Stole a lot of bases as I recall. After his playing days , got addicted to booze & dope. Was chrged with carrying a concealed gun in his car.
He supposedly has turned his life around & is clean & sober.

Could really hit. Substance abuse shortened his career. At first I thought he was dead but I realized I confused him with Lyman Bostock.

He was one of those annoying players on the other team like Carney Lansford and Mike Hargrove - they took their sweet ass time in the box, worked counts, fouled pitches, and usually ended up getting a big hit against your team. Solid all around player who liked his drugs more than his game.

Early 80s Dodgers cat. Can still picture his close up mug shot on one of those ugly early Fleer or Donruss cards. Not to be confused with Ken Singleton.

He came to the Twins in 1979 from the Angels as one of many players and prospects coming in return for Rod Carew. He hit .305 with 15 HRs and 83 RBIs in 1979 and had that big hitting streak in 1980 which made him very popular at a point when Twins ownership was getting rightfully roasted by the fans and local media over selling or trading good players before they could reach free agency while spending nothing on free agents. He was traded before the 1981 season to the Dodgers. The main player coming back was one of the all time comedic flakes in baseball, Mickey Hatcher, who would later go back to LA and win a World Series there in 1988 as more of a bench player type. The guy the Twins asked for and got turned down on was Pedro Guerrero. Landreaux was sent to his hometown team due to the Twins not wanting to pay him big money, some personality conflicts the team insisted were blown out of proportion, a feeling Landreaux was overrated, and a desire to get more right handed power in the order.
