New rule for the upcoming season.

If you lower your head to initiate contact, you will be penalized.

A lot of gray in this rule.  Does this apply to a running back taking the ball up the gut.  They will need to run straight up?

Officials said this is to prevent the head-head contact.

This rule could cause a lot of interpretation problems and impact the outcome of the game on a spontaneous head-lowering movement.

Upon hearing of this new rule, Larry Csonka shed a tear for only the second time in his life.

Helmet-to-helmet stuff is dangerous, so I'm okay with the existing/old rule. This might be taking it a bit further, though.

I won’t watch to see the outcome but they need to enforce this rule on both sides of the ball otherwise the defense will be at an even worse disadvantage.

It even became worse, because it was released today that they can use instant replay to enforce this infraction.

The game is being dramatically changed. They should just blow it up and start over.

We'll have to see how it is called. I think it is more 'PR' to make it look like they are striving to make the game safer. They could call it on half the plays though.

I am not sure. They already have the spearing rule on the books. This rule could really be a so-called “game-changer”. If they do press the enforcement of this rule then I am in favor of blowing the whole thing up and starting over with all new rules.

I think they'll hammer it hard in the preseason and then ease up.

From the insiders, they think it is going to be the enforcement of helmet rule on the offensive side of the ball.

Your first reaction or instinct is to lower your head. This could turn into a shit show.

They really are determined to ruin this sport. I get the safety concerns and they have taken action even if it was late.
Now, they are asking players to play the game in a way that is not really possible on either side of the ball.  At some point, the networks are going to stop paying the massive rights increases at contract time.
Obviously with Fox paying a fortune for the shit show that is Thursday night football, we have not reached that point yet.

If there were no such thing as fantasy football and gambling, there would be big declines in interest

I suppose for the kids just getting into football it won’t be that big of a deal but for those in college or the NFL already this is going to be a hard habit to break because traditionally players were tought to get low, coil and explode. I really don’t see how linebackers and running backs are going deal with this rule and prosper. It’s been said a lot but it’s really starting to transition to a 7 on 7 passing drill. No pun intended But this might be the death blow to football. Fantasy and gambling will keep the NFL propped up to a point but I see a lot of people getting disgusted with this.

You can’t take a dangerous sport and remove the danger without changing the sport.
