Alway liked him as a coach.

Knox just seemed like one of those coaches who could not get his teams to the next level.

Popular joke when I was a kid:

Why don't the Bills have a doorbell?
Because Chuck Knox.

In all honesty, I don't even remember Knox coming close to a championship. Coached the Rams, a powerhouse for sure, but those teams were derailed in the playoffs usually either by Dallas or Minnesota.

The Bills were good while he was there. Good defense. Good running game (Joe Cribbs) Ok passing game (Joe Ferguson) but not even a trip to the AFC Championship game.

Off to Seattle but even the best team (1983) was inferior to both the Raiders and Redskins.

I liked him and all, just looking back I think he had a certain formula that wins (defense and running game) but never got over the top or even close to the top.

Never had a great QB if I recall. A good coach but never made the big game.

Maybe he preferred to run the ball because he didn't have anyone who could throw it very well.

Knox was also in that era that changed from a running game (pre 1978) to a passing game. So you had the guy with the 'old' way of playing but the game was changing
