I have three

Penalty kicks. Back em up a bit. A 12 year old can score on a world-class goalie

Game Time. I would shorten it but the whole extended time/extra time and the mystery of it all I am surprised exists. Dishonestly hasn't crept in at some point?

Goalkeepers. Grabbing the ball, catching it , etc - no different than a goalie in hockey catching the puck. Should result in a corner kick for the team that was 'on offense'

I have another.

Scrap the penalty kick deciding the game. The goalie is just guessing

Better off paring down to a 5 on 5 like hockey and getting the deciding goal scored that way

I won’t comment on improving the game but seeing the goalie dive left when the ball goes right looks ridiculous.

He's guessing. He has to commit before the shooter does or its a goal for sure unless the shooter royally screws up.

I'm not sure I get this desperate need to constantly b changing or making "sports" better. I love European Football and think it should just be left alone.
I'd rather watch Liverpool and Arsenal play a nil - nil game than watch a pro basketball game.
Pro basketball is nothing but 3's and more travelling than is done by a reporter for a travel magazine.
It's boring to watch till the playoffs and even then if it's almost a foregone conclusion who will win why bother.
I don't think any of the final four teams in the World Cup were expected to be there.
Baseball is homeruns and strikeouts and nothing else. I don't care about the length of games. Baseball to me is the one sport of the four major sports that allowed for alot of strategic moved by managers that made the games interesting.
Now it's go up and swing for the fences. Hit and run, base stealing, squeeze plays are all but gone.
It's a sign of the times in a society where people who have to wait more than a minute for their half caf mocha crap latte being impatient and freaking out that leads people want to speed up everything.
Why not have all games decided via video game that takes 15 minutes to play a whole game or a whole season.

The success rate for penalty kicks is 80%, going down to 70% in a shoot-out, so that is patently not true.

There is no mystery to extra time, many different ways have been attempted to break a tie after 90 minutes, but extra time then penalties is the best we have so far, and we always go back to that after trying something new (see golden and silver goals).

Goalkeepers not catching the ball? While the rules have been changed to encourage teams to try to score more goals, they will never be changed to make goals easier to score. More corners would just mean teams would have more players with good heading skills, rather than ball skills. Players with great technical control of the ball are a joy to watch.

You just have to accept that low, or no, scoring games are a part of football. With a few exceptions, a high scoring game is a sign that one or both teams are rubbish.

Belgium are ranked 3rd in the world, so they are supposed to be there, and France are 7th, so no a shock at all for them either. England are ranked 12th and Croatia are ranked 20th. Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Portugal and Spain all came into the tournament with questionable build-up and/or poor attitudes. So, two of the four were highly rated to make the semi-finals, and the other two were outside chances, but not long-shots.

I understand that it just looks ridiculous.

I've only watched a few minutes but geez!! Maybe reduce the number of players on each side. Whenever the offense of one team was in attacking zone the player was swarmed! No wonder the scores are so low.

Just my .02.

Wow, this is the one thing soccer has going for it that none of the other leagues can match in this day of short attention spans.  One thing I absolutely love about my Saturday morning EPL fix is that I know they will kick off at precisely 10AM and the game will be done around 11:50.  Just under two hours each and every time.  Remember when baseball games lasted two to two and a half hours?  They'd have more fans if they could bring that back, guaranteed.

I agree with reducing numbers of players on field. Maybe the same ampunt of players like hockey. Scoring will go way up.

My co-workers are soccer freaks. They've been watching all the WC matches & the one thing that  they cannot stand is the flopping. Players rolling on the ground pretending to be injured or pretending to have been tripped by an opposing player.
Me, i don't give a rat's ass - I'd rather watch Wimbledon but they have the remote.

1) anyone caught diving, even by video review, gets suspended a game without pay. Second offense, two games, etc.

2) If they stop the game because you are "hurt", you stay off the field until the ball leaves play. Enough of the 45 seconds rolling around, then as soon as you get to the sideline, you ask to come straight back onto the field. Would consider making this a timed break on the sideline.

3) I like beej's idea to move back the penalty spot. Move it back two yards, might make a difference.
