The Philly crowds gave Chase Utley a standing ovation during his appearances the past couple nights -- which leads me to a question -- which athlete , not currently playing for your hometown team would get a standing ovation from your hometown?

I remember when Josh Hamilton got a standing ovation at Yankee Stadium for his Home Run Derby performance.  It's a pity he couldn't get his shit together.

I would guess that Verlander will get a standing-O when the Astros visit Detroit later this season.

Joey Bats in Toronto, not my hometown team though.
As far as that goes, he's no longer playing but every time Teemu Selanne comes to Winnipeg the roof gets torn off Bell-MTS Place.

Leaf fans gave Mats Sundin a standing O when he returned as a Vancouver Canuck.
Strange, many Leaf fans didn't like him.

I believe I mentioned this story when he died, but this reminds me of when Roy Halladay returned to Toronto, a game I went to. He got a big ovation when he took the mound to start the game but didn't doff his cap or otherwise acknowledge the cheers. After the game he said that he didn't want to make himself the center of attention in front of his former teammates. That really impressed me. It's a little different for a batter since the umpire and the opposing battery will usually step aside, thus he has no choice but to turn and acknowledge the crowd.

Probably because Sundin was extremely overrated.

Patrick Marleau when he comes to San Jose
Tim Lincecum would if he ever came back to San Francisco.

No.  No, he wasn't.  The guy was durable and dominant for a decade straight.

The Leafs reached two conference finals with Sundin.

I stand corrected, but Sundin is still way overrated.

Can't forget Habs fans going crazy for Guy Lafleur when he scored a brace in the Forum for the Rangers.  There's a great shot of a disgusted Pat Burns after the second goal!
