The Astros have finalized a trade that could fortify their bullpen for October.
Houston completed a deal on Monday to acquire Blue Jays closer Roberto Osuna in exchange for fellow closer Ken Giles and two pitching prospects: right-handers Hector Perez and David Paulino. Perez is ranked by MLB Pipeline as Houston's No. 10 prospect, and Paulino is ranked 23rd in the system. The deal was first reported by MLB Network insider Ken Rosenthal.

Osuna, currently on the restricted list as a result of a 75-game suspension that runs through Saturday, is eligible to pitch in the postseason despite violating Major League Baseball's Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse policy. But Osuna is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, meaning that return date is not certain. Osuna, 23,  has a 2.87 ERA across 221 career Major League outings. The back end of Houston's bullpen was seen to be the only major need the American League West leaders would seriously address leading up to Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET non-waiver Trade Deadline.

The Astros optioned Giles to Triple-A Fresno on July 11, as the right-hander continues to work through struggles that date back to their World Series championship run last year. Giles has posted a 4.99 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP over 34 Major League appearances in 2018, and his struggles have continued for Fresno, with whom he has permitted five earned runs on nine hits and two walks over six appearances.

Not surprised that Osuna got traded. Figured he was done as a Jay but this trade sucks.
Giles might be done as a useful reliever never mind as a closer.Paulino is hot garbage.
Only saving grace might be Perez, of whom I know nothing.

Ridiculous that one of the best closers in baseball, who is in his early 20's is dumped for nothing.

So did Toronto dump Osuna for nothing AND take on Houston’s salary dump? Why the hell would they take Giles?

4.6M for that turd Giles. Because Atkins is completely useless.
They trade Osuna almost entirely because of his legal problems, for a guy demoted to the minors, a AA maybe or maybe never and Paulino who was suspended for half a season for PED's.
You think Donaldson will want to resign when you do shit like that you moron.

I guess teams were not lined up for a guy who hit his girlfriend. The Jays had to get rid of him and teams knew that so you are not going to get a great deal I guess.

They don't want the bad PR. I'm sure there is more to this case that the Jays, Astros and MLB haven't made public. Trading him was pretty much their only option.

It doesn't really placate anyone because one team trading him means another team is trading for him.  And it's a super high-profile team too with World Series aspirations.  If anything, Osuna was rewarded.  But it gets him out of town where maybe the heat won't follow him quite as much.  I don't see the problem for him, but the Jays made a bad deal in their haste to move him.

The Blue Jays dont like controversy. they dont want womens groups heading down to the Dome which these days is a possibility.  there was really no other option for them unless they just sit him until the off season and trade him then. but whatever.

Paulino has an 80 game PED suspension on the books and what Osuna is accused of is definitely worse but still shows how little MLB teams give a crap about cheaters.
And Paulino cheats and sucks on top of that.
Loup and Axford traded today for guys I've never heard of.They couldn't get rid of Granderson and that slug Jaime Garcia though.

The hand-wringing over this trade by sports "journalists" is hilarious...they pretty much want Houston folded as an organization for bringing Osuna in lol..

And yet Ray Lewis goes into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and I see journalists raving about him.
Just weird. Not at all condoning Osuna's actions and were I in charge of the Blue Jays may have done what they did but if you are trying to build a ball team of 25 lily white players you are going to be at it a long time.
Especially in this day and age

There was barely a ripple over Aroldis Chapman.  IT was mentioned, but nothing like this.  Shows how much things have changed in just 3 years or so.
