17-0, counting the playoffs... but who's counting? They are.

I'll always remember him for his accent and his co-hosting duties on "Inside the NFL". My dad and I had a running joke about the way Buoniconti would say "Kwah-tah-back" for "quarterback". In fact, the old man will probably call me this weekend to tell me "Kwah-tah-back died".

I stand corrected- were they the only team to go perfect all the way? Or did New England do it?

New England was perfect in the regular season in 2007 but lost the SB.
Miami is the only team post merger to go undefeated through the SB.
They were not good in the pre-season as a side note, losing 3 times.

I think I have audio cassettes of the entire 72 Dolphins preseason. And I'm pretty sure that the announcers acted like they were in bad shape going into the regular season after how badly they played in the preseason.

Griese was hurt during part of that season if I remember correctly.

Conversely, during the Lions infamous 0-16 season, they went 4-0 in the preseason.

Not that big a deal really, especially considering each team played 6 preseason games in the 1970's.

Nick was also president of the United States Tobacco Company during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Buoniconti was a leading critic of studies which showed that smokeless tobacco caused cancer of the mouth as well as other types of cancer.
