'18-'19 POTY, 1st Ballot HOFer
I do not think Brady is interested in money... I think he is interested in quality receivers and offensive lineman - and in breaking more recordsI would tend to agree with you, but something happened last year when negotiating a long term deal that made him bitter. Read up about his current situation, the only way that this gets done is if the Pats exercise his options, then hope that he renegotiates. The way it’s laid out, if the options are declined it becomes something like $32M in dead cap space spread unevenly over two years, with more hitting in 2020 than 2021. If they DO exercise the options, it’s $32M in salary spread similarly. Brady deserves the highest contract in the NFL to pay him all that they’ve taken from him over the years; he’s never cared to be the highest paid. But he wanted a contract to take him to 45 years old and Kraft didn’t do it and it pissed him off. I think there’s some legs to the whole deal that he wants to prove himself without Belichick.
People have said SD is an option amongst other places. The team that could offer him the greatest place to just shove it in everyone’s faces is Tampa. Bruce Arians has one of if not THE best offensive mind in football, two blazers on the outside, a great and underutilized TE, and no QB under contract. Even with what I feel are physical limitations, he wins a Super Bowl if he goes to Tampa and he does it fast. That is, if he’s not washed up (and I think he is). Look for all of the super veteran QBs to talk to Arians. And don’t be surprised if he tries to acquire the rights to Andrew Luck either.
