Figured I would kick this off just in case people give a shit.  Which leads to the reason I kicked this off:  Do any of you give a shit?
I got a popup ad for the NY Gladiators tickets, and you can get lower level seats for $20 for a limited time.  And their first home game is 2/9 at 2PM.  From 1990-1998 I was a NY Jets season ticket holder, because a friend of mine inherited tickets in the '80s and got a call back from when he put his name on the waiting list back in 1981.  In about 1993, I decided I was too much of a pussy to sit outside and freeze my fucking ass off at a November or December game and started selling or giving to friends the tickets instead of going.  I had lower level End Zone seats right above the players' tunnel at the old Giants Stadium.  The stadium was like a wind tunnel, and if some prick maintenance guy forgot to lock the gate across the opposite end zone, the wind would whip to the point that you could see the flags on top of the goal posts pointing in different directions for an entire game.  Add to it that my seats were two rows undercover (great when it rained), we never got sun and if it snowed during the week it wouldn't melt.  So I said fuck that.  Which gets to my point:  Do any of you believe that the two cold weather cities of NY and DC are going to draw a dime?  I cannot imagine after opening day that they could possibly draw more than 2500 people to watch this shit in the cold.  I went to a WLAF game back in the early '90s that was played during the summer at night, it was the most beautiful night that you could ask for in a football game, and if 2000 people were there it was a lot.  I'm not going to say the XFL is going to fail, but I will say that if the TV audience sees weak attendance on TV, nothing that they see on the field nor what the announcers say will draw them out to watch live.  MetLife Stadium doesn't really have many, if any, undercover seats other than the suites.  So you are fully in the elements in fucking February.  I really think they screwed the pooch here, because even the Arena League could draw 5000 people to games on Long Island and couldn't survive.  While I don't think Vince will fuck this up the way Charley Ebersol did the UFL, I can't see this going past next season - Vince won't ever pull the plug after one year unless the TV Networks bail, and I think he's still got two favors to call in.

I honestly thought the XFL was starting in 2021. So count me as "not giving a shit".

If I was in a market that had a team, I might give a poop, though.

I have to agree with you on watching NY football in December unless you are a diehard that shit ain't it. It is much better watching that shit at home.
I went to a Giants game in 2012 i think vs the Eagles last game of the season and left at halftime because it didn't make sense to sit in the cold and watch a meaningless football game, and it was FUCKING FREEZING....that wind was slapping like i owed it money.

When you're selling bargain basement discount tix before the first snap, what is the fucking point of even running this league?  They'll be incredibly lucky to get 7,000 fans there on opening day with greatly reduced prices, and then what happens Week 2 when there's 1,500 fans?  I can't see any scenario in which this lasts more than a season...again.  And there's MUCH less buzz around the XFL now than there was 20 years ago, when it actually started out a little hot.

Do you know if Vince got any of these networks to pony up rights fees to broadcast the games?  Or are they putting them on as a favor/Vince is buying air time?

I'm sure there are certain areas more football-starved than others that will go to any game at a discounted price, but I'd be shocked if MetLife doesn't look completely empty by mid-season even with tons of freebies.  I know you need the NY market to be taken seriously, but it just wasn't worth putting a team here as opposed to a smaller market without any other pro sports that might actually support it.

They'll make more money from providing betting services.

We were the top drawing team attendance wise and played in their championship game in 2001, and they still didn't give us a franchise, so fuck 'em! Especially after the Niners moved out of The City. I would of strongly considered going to games at Oracle Park. The XFL will last one season at best.

Chad Johnson (Chad Ochocinco) is trying out with the XFL this week - as a kicker. Chad has always wanted to kick and former Bengals coach Marvin Lewis let him kick a few pats in Cincinnati years ago.

Also the XFL will allow two forward passes per play, which is bush league amateur hour in my opinion.

They legalized the "spot pass"?  That is TOTAL bullshit.  Why not also have the linebackers dip their hands in plaster so that they can just punch the helmets off the WRs that come over the middle?

Here are all the XFL rule changes according to Wiki. A must read, as most of these are change for the sake of change, which rarely turns out good:

He won't be doing much, this league isn't even going to have FG's. He might be in as little as 1 play a game.

The league will have FG's and gimmick kickoffs. Just no extra points.

The extra point rules are all from an offensive formation, non kicks. 1 point from the 2 yard line, 2 point conversion from the 5 yard line, and a 3 point conversion from the 10 yard line. I think they should amend the rule that you can't go for 3 until the last 3 minutes of the half/game, but that's just me. Too many gimmicks.
